It would be wise to take him to the vet for a complete geriatric exam.

Also just because he is 9 doesn't mean he's "near the end". Danes that are well bred and well cared for live into their teens. In the past 10 -20 years great strides have been made in the longevity. It isn't at all unusual for a Dane to live to be 13 or older.Danes pretty much have the same life expectancy as a Lab or Golden.

I would suggest going to the vet immediately, and take Fido with you! :) Sad to say, but Great Danes to not tend to live long life spans as dogs go, and yours is getting near the end.

The retching might be fluid in his lungs, worms, or a lot of other things, but for being on the safe side I think the Vet is a must do!

It could be that he has a form of Kennel Cough. I would always recommend going to a vet if a problem doesn't resolve itself within a few weeks. Always better safe than sorry.

I ams surprised you have left it a few months. if you cant take your dog to the vet (for whatever reason) then ring the local rspca (aspca) etc and ask advice. Really sounds to me like you should take him for a check

Hope it is nothing serious and he is ok xx

I had a doberman that started doing this about a year before she died. She ended up having a stroke due to cardiomyopathy. Your dog may have congestive heart failure cardiomyopathy. Make sure you get a chest x-ray. They should put him on calcium channel blockers and a diuretic.
