Perhaps you mean "belies"

As in "The observable condition of the deteriorating patient belies positive changes in his liver panel"

It means to contradict, something that often is observed in health care and medicine.

A child may have improving vital signs, but if all lab work points to an acceleration of a disease process, then there is a contradiction...one belies the other.
