Would it be to invent wireless electricity in the form the somehow electrons are floating about every where but only become charged when comer into contact with a special modulator on the chosen device.
This would be great and mean no more wires

We do that but only for communication signals and not for electricity power.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) researchers are trying hard with little success to send tiny power streams over the air to passive tags within few yards to wake them up.

Probably not going to happen because it needs to meet 2 criteria:

1) As cheap or cheaper than transmitting through wires.

2) As safe or safer than transmitting through wires.

Wireless electricity already exists. It is called arcing. You need big potential differences and it tends to fry things.

Well,, it always take energy to convert one form of energy to another, in the case u have mentioned, its electrostatic energy generation from some other form,
in this case the SPL modulator you are talking about will also need energy to do its job, thus you will end up dissipating more energy then harnessing..... nice thought but requires li'l thinking,
other wise a process to invoke nuclear reactions in stable atoms can be invented which will be ultimate source of energy,
Next generation products will not be limited to energy, but will harness their fuel from mass to energy conversion............................

It is possible. and any body can prove it.
example
sun light = we generate power by using specific machines.

water = we generate power through water by using turbines.

now it is up to the researchers that how to make wireless electricity.
