You lose all benifits...families with one child will have free medical benifits for the child, free schooling, etc... But once the second child is born, the family must fend for themselves. As China is aching to lower the birthrate, families with one child will be rewarded with these free services. The problem with this structure is that a significant number of parents either murder or strand their daughter because it is more of an honor to have a son to carry on the family name...and then they will attempt again to have a son.

Depends on how MANY over the one child limit you have...
Usually they sell their female children at the open market to avoid any problems. That way they dont have to claim they have any more than one child. They can hire help all they want, so that doesnt count.
One child over the limit usually means you are going to struggle pretty hard to get anywhere.
Two and you may be looking at prison.
3 and well, you wont have any more children.
4 and an automatic death penalty for both parents.

Higher taxes, fines, mainly money troubles... they used to terminate if they found another... they may have changed it

years ago, they would kill the farmers' pigs , burn thier huose, tie them and beat them , and they always carry guns ,that's years ago, now maybe much better
