People have to understand that "fighting" doesn't take martial arts to be good at. If you understand your body weight and can throw that weight effectively... then you are gold! There were a few fighters in the UFC like Tank Abbot that proved "brawling" was a skill in fighting. Just keep going and never give up until they do.

That whole "its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog" is totally true! Martial arts just helps you with your balance and technique, but sure.... anyone can be a great fighter. Just practice a lot :)

The best thing to do is nothing. Fighting solves nothing. Martial arts are for self-defense, not fighting. Self-defense clearly defines its real intentions, which is to defend yourself, not take out someone. I suggest that you try to not throw a punch at all. If the person that is attempting to fight you persists and constantly pesters you and starts to attack you, dodge the attacks. Learning to dodge helps improve reflexes, and that will help you in sports. Start by keeping your distance from the attacker. At least an arm's length will do. Then as he starts moving, watch his movements and step back and swing your body along with you. That's what I'd do if I were dodging. However, if worst comes to worst and he starts punching you, call for help from a teacher or someone. Knock on someone's door, ring their doorbell, hope they are there and you will be saved. Now, if no one is near to help you and you can't dodge, I guess the best way to do is throw a punch and hope for the best. This is a last resort! Please don't start punching random people to learn how to fight or anything.

Now, you may want to learn how to trip him when he's throwing punches. That may get him angrier, that may get him off your back. But tripping him is just as smart as punching him. So that's a last resort option too. You could pull off a Hadoken! Just shoot a surge of ki at him and you've got a long range attack! Just kidding.

Anyway, well, to the last part. Again, if need be, throw a punch. Learn how to throw a punch by watching a boxing match or something. Practice punching in front of a mirror.

The last message of this long and crazy rant. Please do not resort to fists to solve anything. Only do so as a last ditch option if there is no escape. Thank you for reading this.

okay, from the question, i can see that you are probably not very athletic. i would say, that the only way that you can learn how to fight without doing martial arts would be to do pushups, situps, pullups, and squats, along with getting into a lot of fights. even then tho, anyone who has any technuiqe at all, and hits where they are aiming for, will kick your @$$. so really, it doesn't matter how strong you are, it is whether or not you know what you are doing. and that knowledge can only be gotten from fighting a LOT, or martial arts.

Why don't you chose best answer on your other question before making a new one. Of course you can be come strong and you will start winning fights but... someone half your size, with technique will own you.

everyone can only win at fights by fighting them. even martial arts training cant help you if you havent done it for real.

training for competitions is not training for fighting.

the outside world is the only true place to be tested, and learn. martial arts will give you the tools, but the true applications come from the randomness of violence outside the hall.

HEY ARE U FROM INDIA BCOZ I AM.
YOU DONT HAVE TO BE STRONG PHYSICALLY TO WIN A FIGHT.WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE I WAS WORSE I WAS SKINNY AND WEAK BUT I WAS CONFIDENT THAT I COULD BEAT UP ANY GUY IN MY CLASS EVEN THOUGH I WAS BEATEN MANY TIMES BEFORE. FOLLOW THE PATH OF NON VIOLENCE AND YOU LL BE SURPRISED AT HOW IT WORKS. IF YOU BEAT UP A GUY HE'S JUST GONNA WAIT AND BEAT YOU UP BAD SOME OTHER DAY. THINK SMART AND AHEAD
REMEMBER VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER.

Your best option is to learn a Martial Art. If you want to get stronger, excercise, pushups, pullups etc. If you want something other than a martial art, why did you ask on this board?

Practice shadow boxing.

Practice hitting and kicking a heavy bag.

Rent tapes of people fighting, and try to emulate their moves.

Good luck.
