A Chi. It'll cost ya about 100 bucks. But I have a good one that's not a Chi, and it works just fine. Just make sure its ceramic.

With flat irons, you basically get what you pay for. Mine was either $175 or $75 and it works great. The brand is Babyliss, but im not exactly sure which model. If you have thick hair, you definitely want to invest in a good one, or your hair will frizz and break. You can them at Sally Beauty Supply.
The best way to get your hair straight, is to blow it out straight, first. After this, your hair is destined to be frizzy an big if it is naturally curly. While you're letting the flat iron heat up, apply a product that will protect your hair from the heat of the flat iron. (My favorite is BioSilk, available at mostly any drugstore. Just a small amount though, or it tends to look greasy.)Then, section off your hair. Starting with the bottom section, pull down one at a time. Each time you pull one down, detangle a one inch section. Grab this section with the flat iron and slowly pull the flat iron towards the ground. Keep straightening the seperate sections until your hair is done. Once you are done, apply an even smaller amount of the BioSilk. If you feel it is needed, you may apply a light amount of hairspray. I prefer Bed Head "Masterpiece". It's in a blue metallic bottle and is availabe at Sally Beauty Supply. Make sure you comb your hair after you spray any hairspray though, as it may becom crunchy.

Use an ionic flat iron. It will not curl back easly.
Solia makes a Tourmaline Ceramic Ionic Flat Iron.
According to the Solia flat iron website, "tourmaline,
a precious stone, is used to generate up to 6 times more
negative ions than traditional ceramic irons".( $75/85)

Listen to sands, GHD's are fantastic and def the way forward. They het it up in seconds and your hair feels as though you've just left the salon. They're expensive but so worth it and they last for years unlike most of the cheaper ones on the market. Trust me I've got really thick frizzy hair which tends to frizz but not since I started using GHD's. Have a look on Ebay otherwise most department stores & hair salons stock them.
