The statistics show that spayed or neutered dogs have a 40% chance of a longer life. I don't know that one or two litters will shorten a dogs life, but if bred too young (under two) they have a much higher chance of early bone disease during adulthood..
Unspayed females have a much higher chance of having mammary tumors.
I lost a magnificent Doberman during whelping her puppies. She had nine, and died with 3 more still undelivered..so you need to know that that sad outcome is always possible.

The only reason anyone should breed their dogs is for the love and contination of the breed. Therefore only pure bred dogs should be bred with the same breed of purebred dogs and then only by reputable breeders.
There are far too many unwanted mutts out there in the world who ache to go home to a loving family but there are just too many and so instead of getting a nice home they get a shot and a death sentence. All because of irresponcible pet owners letting their dogs have puppies. I did a research paper on this. The stats are like for evey puppy born another 3 dogs must die just to make room in the grand sceme of things. They put down dogs of all ages, even puppies. So, If your dog has four pups, 12 dogs from puppies to old dogs will be put to death. Something to think of.
Yes, breeding you dog will shorten her life. Ask your vet. Spayed and neutered dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. It is documented. If you want her to bestow her sweet personality on to her offspring why not foster unwanted pups? They will get a great start at life and she'll get to teach them how to be sweet like she is.

Only if she is breed to death. Some people and breeders don't care about their dogs and let them have puppies every heat cycle. As they get older their little bodies give out. Just like you would if you had a baby every nine months. I breed mine once a year and only after the vet checks them out and tells me they are healthy enough to have puppies. So it depends really on the care you give your dog and how much you breed her.
