I am in my mid twenties and planning a vacation out of state. I am single and for some reason, my parents feel the need to come along. When I tell them I wanted to go alone, they said it sounds strange for me to want to go by myself. I want to tell them to stay home, but keep the peace. I have been told to tell them off and been told I should just let them go. Any suggestions?

Wow... that is a bit strange. Why would your parents want to go on your vacation with you? Do you still live with them? Even if you do I think that is sounds more strange for them to want to go with you than it sounds for you to not want them to go.
Explain your dilemma to them. Tell them exactly what you just told us.
You don't want them to go but you don't want to hurt their feelings and cause a family ruckus. Explain that you are an adult and you feel it is not at all strange for an adult women to want to take a vacation without her parents. Ask them to respect your wishes and the fact that you are a grown women that was raised by them and should be trusted. Let them know that they do not need to worry, that you will call and let them know you are OK and that you will call them if you need help or get in trouble.

Regardless of gender, that is a bit odd that your parents feel the need to come along. I think that you need to be firm and direct about the matter and simply state that you would like to take a vacation alone, as an adult. If you can get a good friend to come along with you, that would possibly cause them to relax a bit. I can certainly understand why you'd like to vacation on your own... Like I said, being firm, respectful and direct should bring about the desired result with minimal "ruckus". Hope this helps some and good luck.

It might be a memorable experience if they do come along. It doesnt mean youre obligated to spend the whole vacation with them it just means that you will have company if you hit a dry patch.

Just tell them that you need time alone. remind them that you love spending time with then but your over 20 and need to cut the apron strings. you could even go on your trip but then plan a weekend trip at a later date with them.
