you're going through problems, they're nowhere to be seen. What are these types of people called?

Fair weathered friend. not a very good friend at all.
I have a reverse situation though. I have a girl friend that never calls me unless shes fighting with her husband or else her kid is sick. I have helped her out many times. picked her up from places . bought her groceries when her husband wouldnt ect... but i realized that whenever things were going ok in her life i never heard from her. That makes me feel used. so yes people should be there for the good as well as the bad. thats what a real friend does.

I don't know but I wouldn't call a person like that a friend! A friend will be there for you through good AND bad times.

I could think of many words to describe someone like this. Friend would not be one of them. Selfish, uncaring, self centered, etc. And someone I would distance myself from. God bless****

Parasites? Chinese has a term for these, "Pig & Dog friends" or "Dog's Meat friends" meaning exactly what you described.
