Water Storage Geyser/heater gives a pop sound while heating water?

The Storage Tank has water. The Thermostat and the heating element work properly. But before being cut off from the supply, it gives a pop or a sound like thatwhen we open the soda or any aerated bottle. I undersatnd the sound is that of the Air.
Why such sound? Is it harmful?

It could not be air! Most probably the electric connection to the thermostat is shorted and make asteam bobble.
