Hi all, imaging a chimny breast which is made of ... concrete or whatever walls are made of lol.. well the front is concrete and the sides have been boarded up with wood, its all neatly fitted up etc.

Well heres the question, my friend is coming to plaster on Sunday for me, can he plaster over the wood? or do i nede to get it ripped out and something else putting there? im hoping its simple enough just to plaster over it..

dont plaster on top of wood dont use metal mesh dont unibond anything except the face of chimney breast. buy some plaster board and two lengths of angle bead / thin coat bead and some dry wall screws and screw the plaster board over the timber. use clout nails to attach beads to corners and your mate can skim the lot. if hes a plasterer he should know this???? good luck

It depends if the wood as been treated or painted the plaster might not adhere well.Get a piece of plaster board and pin it over the wood to be guaranteed a good strong finish it is easy to cut and nail on.

don't plaster over timer...instead either rip it out or cover it with expanded metal...you can get this from a builders yard. Ripping the timber out will be the cheapest method if the old cash is a bit tight.

I think you need to unibond it first, then use a compound of some kind. Im sure a you can, though a plasterer will be able to answer better for you!
