When I try to view a movie clip from the net or download an update and try to run the file, I get this message. Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item. Anyone know how to fix this problem???

What version of Windows are you using? What is the file system of your drives: NTFS or FAT32? (Right-click on a drive and select properties. The File System is under the General tab.)

I have been able to find a couple of possible causes if you are using Windows Media Player in Windows Millennium, NT or 98. Links below.

As for the problem with files that you are downloading, that sounds like the permissions to your drive or part of your drive have been changed. That would only be the case if you have Windows XP or NT (or Vista, I guess) and the File System on that drive is NTFS.
Unfortunately, Windows doesn't have a straightforward tool for fixing permissions. It has a tool cacls.exe that you can run from the command line, but I won't try to explain that without more details about your problem.
