Zucchini is a member of the squash family. To find a substitute, you might look at other members of the family, such as pattypan. Yellow squashes can be substituted, such as summer squash, but they're still different than Zucchini.

A type of squash. Any type of squash you can get, cut into strips or squares (discard the skin) and cook it lightly (steam or sautee or grill a bit) and it should be good. Some Indian cities have zucchini, I thought? You can get seeds and grow it yourself.

In Britian a zucchini is known as a courgette. A baby marrow would be a good substitute.

It is called courgette also. A substitute would be marrow.

I do not know the whereabouts of it in India as I come from a distance away in England and have never been able to venture that far.

Use eggplants instead. Aubergines are quite common in India.
