no,but if u get stop then they impond ur car u won't have to turn ur license in if u done something really bad like a dui or dwi and depends on if u got 12 points on ur license and they been revoked then take take them

No way. Say you start going to school at UNC. There's great transit and TERRIBLE parking, so you sell your car. You use Avis or ZipCar http://www.zipcar.com/unc/find-cars when you need a car for mall runs, weekend getaways etc.
You don't have insurance because you sold your car (duh). But ZipCar and Avis require you to have a license! So obviously you can keep your license if you don't have insurance... otherwise ZipCar couldn't exist.
This works because ZipCar includes insurance with the rental, and Avis will sell you insurance with your rental.
