I'm going to be moving to a not-so-nice part of town, and I won't have a place to park my car. Right now the car has two main security features: a lock on the driver's door, and a lock on the passenger's door.

I don't really want an alarm, so what else can I get?

Mainly, I don't want alarms because they only go off when there's nothing wrong, and if anything did happen, I'd probably sleep through it anyway.

Dobermans? for car security? if I did that, wouldn't I need to install a doggy door through the trunk, so they don't poop and pee on the upholstery? And isn't a car a kind of small space to be keeing dogs that size in? Real answers only, please.

Try to park under a street light next to a busy street. Don't make you car a target. Like don't leave things in the seat. Put valubles in the trunk and lock it if there is a valet lock. same with your glove box. Lo jack is very expensive( put it on my acura), but adt home security has something similar go to www.adt.com and you could research it. You could buy car alarm stickers that say you have an alarm. Also led lights that flash wich tell people you have an alarm. Your car is less likey to get broken into when you have those items combined. For your safety, you could also buy foglights that turn on by remote and before you walk out to your car you can turn them on and be seen in the light. ALso buy a club. Maybe buy a sports horn so if you see any suspicous activity, blow it, its loud but it works. Most importantly lock your car.

A steering wheel lock, such as The Club, is a relatively cheap, and very visible way of securing your car. The Club will make it a royal pain in the neck for would-be car thieves to steal your car, and since they want to pick the low-hanging fruit, this would provide some measure of security. (They'll steal someone else's car first).

Can you put in a stereo with a removable front? Then you just pop the front off and take it home in your pocket when you park for the night, rendering the stereo worthless to thieves.

Also, if you're willing to go to the trouble, remove the coil wire every time you park the car. Unless the thieves travel with a spare coil wire, that will make your car impossible to start.

None of these ideas do much to protect you from vandalism, I'm afraid, but they may stop thieves.

A steering wheel lock (The Club), don't leave stuff around that is visible, including coins and I always leave glove box open so they know there is nothing in there worth breaking in for. I have a little LED light blinking on my dash but no alarm, just plays the part. If you have nice wheels put wheel lock nuts on them. An ignition cut off is also a good idea, I installed a toggle switch that cuts power to my fuel pump hidden under the dash, I have to flip it to start.

There is a ton of things you could get.

You can have pieces of metal welded in the door to stop people from getting in with a slim jim.

You can have shatterproof glass installed so a would-be thief can't break your windows out.

If your car is an older car you might want to have the locks changed as older locks are more vulnerable to jiggle keys.

LO-JACK, A FEW PIT-BULLS, DOBERMANS AND MAYBE A GERMAN SHEPHERD MIGHT HELP ALSO. IF THEY WANT YOUR CAR THEY WILL STEAL IT.
