I have quite a few ....
they don't tattoo you by rubbing fluffy bunnies on you . They use needles...so yeah , it hurts . But depending on where you place your ink and your own personal pain tolerance, it will be a different experience. Typically the rule of thumb is : the closer to a bone the needle gets the more painful...ankles , sternum, etc. Personally my most painful were the two swallows on my chest.
I find the initial lining to be the worst part. The color fill seems less painful because they use a wider set of needles, spreading the sensation over a wider surface area. The lining gun is typically a denser configuration of needles needed to create that defined outline. Shading and color-fill is always cake for me. They can color me in all day ...just get the outline DONE!!!!! *laughs*
Talk to your artist about placement options and make an informed decision based on your own tolerances and preferences.
Good luck should you decide to move forward. But keep in mind that tat's are like Lays potato chips... once you have one , you get to wanting more. :-)

Getting a tattoo is something annoying, but it's a nuisance that 90% of people hold without much problem, as well as carry about 10 or 20 minutes that you are doing your body gets used and less annoying. If you've kidded 3 times I do not think you have to hang on the problem molestiade make a tattoo

I have a few tattoos on different areas of my body.
I don't think anyone would say that a tatoo tickles that's for sure!
The only way to explain what it feels like is being scratched over and over in the same place. It doesn't feel like a needle.
The 'pain' is not unbearable... otherwise not so many people would have them.
Some areas, such as the neck, wrists, ribs, ankles and stomach tend to be more uncomfortable than the upper arms or shoulder.
I personally enjoy getting them done and do not find the feeling too bad at all. I have been in for one and somebody next to me has nearly been crying though! Suppose it depends on your pain threshold!
Most people that I know said that their first tatto was not half as bad as what they assumed it would be.

Yes it hurts!! I have 5 down the middle of my back and 1 on my ankle. Only 1 hurt like #$%^, but I think the pain was due to the person doing it more then wear I was getting it done at, he obviously was drilling me or I wouldn't have felt the heat from the gun...And I'm sure anybody who may see my bones after I die will see that dragon on my spine...lol. The rest were really not so bad, once the outline was done. Seems anywhere that you skin is sensitive to touch will be painful; ribs? neck? head? Or on bone.

I had my lower back done and the outline of the design was kinda painfull but the fill in work was more like somebody scratching their nail hard down your back. I had 2 of my kids at home so I probably have a higher pain tolerance than the average person but honestly it really isnt that bad. I'd rather get a tatt than get my teeth drilled on lol!

It definitely hurts, but the level of pain depends on an individual's pain tolerance. Some places hurt more than others apparently. I have one on my tummy. The outline hurt a fair bit, but the colouring in of the tatt didn't hurt at all.
Give it a go! It's bearable pain & worth it!

I hate the looks of tattoos. Yes it hurts. If you get skin rashes later on in life, your tattoos will all get messed up & you can't fix them. I know a person whom there two arms is a mess now.

They are sticking a needle in you, what do YOU think? How much discomfort you get from it will depend on your pain tolerance and whether the tattoo you want is worth the degree of pain you will suffer to get it. I don't have any tattoos for the simple reason I don't know what my pain tolerance is and I don't want to embarress myself. When I think of a design that means so much to me ,any amount of pain I suffer will be worth it, THEN I will get a tattoo

I have three tats. One on my shoulder, one on my ankle and one on my lower back. One thing to remember if you are concerned about pain is how bony the area is you are wanting to get a tat on. Fatty parts of the body are less painful while bonier parts are more painful. Also, sensitive parts hurt more also - such as the inside of the arm. Tats hurt, just depends on to what degree...
