My dad who is a recently divorced, successful doctor met this girl on an online dating site. I was happy for him at first but then found out she was 23, which is the same age I am. It really bothered me that my dad would actually be interested in someone the same age as his daughter not to mention 31 years younger than him. Anyway, she ended up being a real wacko so they aren't communicating anymore. I love my dad and just want him to be happy so I just kept quiet about the whole thing. Is that normal for me to feel that way or should I just not worry about it?

It is normal for you not to like your dad seeing someone the same age as you, but if it happens again, just trust in his judgement. It would be a massive confidence boost for him to to have someone that age interested.

You will probably find that he will find himself much happier with someone his own age.

Good job keeping quiet it shows great maturity.
Goodluck.

YES, it is OKAY to be bothered!!! I would be horrified if my father was dating someone my age...I am also 23. I attract older men and always have....and I think that is is gross. I feel that men who go after women that much younger (in general...there are always exceptions) are sad, going through a mid life crisis, or lack social skills.

I think it's especially weird when your children are the same age...or OLDER than the person you are dating.

Maybe your dad was just trying to get back out there. Getting divorced can be brutal on a person, and it can leave you feeling pretty lonely. He might have also felt flattered that such a young attractive woman would be interested in him.

I think you should let this one go, but if it becomes a pattern, I would have a chat with him about it.

How you feel is very normal. But I guess if you were thinking clearly, you would of wondered why a female that age would be interested in your dad! Things just work themselves out by themselves. Right now your dad is probably having a bad enough time as it is. I would just stick by his side, and just make sure he stays out of real trouble! If you didn't worry, you wouldn't love him so much! Good lookin out!!! That's what family is for!!! He will probably go through the "change of life again", thinking and wishing he was 30 again!

well my uncle is 47 and has a daughter who is 23 with kids (making him a grandpa) and he just had a kid with a 20 year old at first we were all mad but seriously my uncle has never seemed so happy and they seem to really care for each other (she's very mature for 20 also which helps) it really just depends but my uncle doesn't have money whereas it seems your dad probably does if he's a doctor just keep an eye out make sure she likes him and isn't trying to get into his wallet. Good luck!

It would certainly bother me. It's an ego thing with some men. It gives them the allusion of still being attractive to a young woman. Usually the young woman is using them. Other people laugh at them behind their backs. In other words, they look like the fool. These relationships seldom last long. Did he get a sports car too? That would be typical. Yes, it's normal for you to worry about it.

1. Yes, it's very normal for you to feel that way.
2. Recently divorced middle-aged+ men are almost all psychotic.
3. You don't HAVE to be happy for him if something he's doing is upsetting you. You seem like a respectful girl though and I'm sure he's proud of you.
4. Recently divorced middle-aged+ men are almost all psychotic.

I'm almost 23 and would feel the same if my father did what you described. I can't think of a valid reason why I should feel like that, but I'll always feel uncomfortable thinking of the two of them together. I mean, my father will freak out if I was dating a man his age, and why because of the age gap! So, I would be thinking: If he wants to date a girl who is my age, doesn't he care about what her father thinks? Why is he so selfish? Now why can't I date a man like him?

Do you know Kenny Rogers the Country singer?
Every few years, he gets older, dumps his current wife and then finds and marries a younger woman to have another family with.
This is how he stays "young" - by reliving his 30's over and over again.
Maybe your father is looking to do the same.

It is very normal to feel as you do - and also very commendable that you just kept your opinion to yourself. Good way to handle this awkward situation!

There is nothing you can do about his life - he's done raising you and can live and re-live his life as he wishes now.

Age ain't nothin' but a number.

Let your Father enjoy himself.
Most older men fantasize about having a younger lady.
He's enjoying the fantasy. Let him!

If he finds happiness in this cruel world, be happy for him.

If she's young, instead of hating, think of her as a potential friend.

Whatever you do, don't be a controlling hater.

This happened with me and my dad and yes, it should totally bother you. That's real skeezy and he's acting ridiculous. Just because it happens doesn't mean it's okay and anyone who thinks it's okay is probably a perv. or trying to justify their tendencies. It's not cool for a grown man to take advantage of a woman with less life experience.
Tell him how you feel and then keep your space from him. He may not change anything but you can change by choosing not to be around him when he's doing this.
