I think it is something every man should do for his country.
Call me old fashioned but if woman want to more power for them, but definitely all men should serve.

That would only strengthen each persons value and commitment to this country.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
Thats the second time today that quote fit perfectly.

I think having *everyone* join, straight out of high school, could solve many of the problems this country is facing today. I know quite a few individuals who were faced serving time or serving their country, and have done a complete personality 180. A few of these people have even gone on for officer training. So many kids these days are growing up without direction or stability in their lives. So many have families that can't or don't support them. The military can provide a great deal of support in all aspects of a persons life. There is family counseling, financial counseling, substance abuse counseling...it goes on. Not to mention service in the military would better prepare an individual for college after their term. They'd be more mature and better prepared to handle classes and the workload, and they'd actually be able to pay for it. If you ask me, the military is the best thing our young society needs.

Oh and there are plenty of jobs in the military that don't require a gun.

No.I don't believe forcing people to join the military would benefit this country at all. There are already people who themselves enlisted for service and are trying to run away form serving in Iraq and other countries, imagine if we actually forced people they would all probably run away. Some people are just not cut out for military service.I am sure if it came down to it and we seriously were in dire need of troops people would have no choice but to step up.

No some people are just not cut out to be in the military. I can think of people I went to school with. That I wouldn't want them carrying a piece protecting my back. Because they don't have half a brain.

I actually think it's a really good idea, like a 2 year term for all men and women right after high school, before college. I think it would improve the state of our nation dramatically, and decrease apathy since people would feel they actually have a state in government.

Good God No. Why would we want to waste so much money on people who do not even want to be there. I have served with people who did not want to be in, but it was a family tradition and they were the biggest liability on the ship. The all volunteer force works, do not screw with it. Just pay better.

Been there, done that, doesn't work too well. Most of the draftees of my time spent more time trying to get out of the service than they did serving their Country. Most of them were a waste of a good uniform.

It works pretty well for Israel (men *and* women). As long as there's a regulated time for it--immediately after high school or college graduation, for example, before someone has settled into a family and career--then it might be worth considering. As long as nobody from wealthy families is able to opt out!

No. The last thing our military needs is to be saddled with a bunch of undisciplined clowns who don't want to be there.
