Jesus was now full of Holy Spirit. As He returned from the Jordan, the Spirti led Him to the desert where He was tempted by the evil for forty days. He did not eat anything during that time, and in the end he was hungry. The devil then said to him, "If you are the son of God, tell this stone to turn into bread." But Jesus answered, "Scripture says: People cannot live on bread alone."

Then the devil took him up to a high place and showed Him in a flash all the nations of the world. And he said to Jesus, "I can give you power over all the nations and their wealth will be yours, for power and wealth have been delivered to me and I give them to whom I wish. All this will be yours provided you worship me." But Jesus replied, Scripture says: You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him alone." ...

As I read this, I immediately thought....know who you are and have courage to fight temptation. Know that you can rise above these worldly desires, which are empty compared to God's love.
Great question... SHARE the faith and God bless.

Jesus water baptism (Father spoke from heaven, Son was baptised and Holy Spirit descended in the form of a dove - the Trinity). Jesus was fully human with God-blood in Him (fully God). As such Jesus came not only to be our perfect sacrifice but also our perfect example to follow (while He lived among us as a human). The devil said "if" because he wasn't sure - Paul wrote that none of the princes of this world knew; for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory 1Cor.2:8. satan is called "the prince of the power of the air" and ruling evil spirits over different provinces of the earth, ruling under satan. Jesus showed us how to deal with satan when he comes to tempt us - Use the Word against him. The temptation of bread - every Word of God becomes our "bread." The temptation to gain the world through false worship - again Jesus gives us the perfect example of how to handle temptation - The Scripture. Worship belongs to the "Lord your God and serve Him alone..." Here we have the Three in One - God. The Lord (usually a term referring to Christ), your God (Christ reconciling us back to the Father so that we are united in fellowship and thus becomes a personal (your) God once again), and serve (only the Holy Spirit can apply the blood and cause our "service" to be acceptable before God the Father), Him alone (the pleurality of the One God. HIM - One God in three persons).

Satan had control (and still does) of all the governments of the world. He was trying hard to tempt Jesus who was weak and hungry at that moment by promising him that he would give him (Jesus) control of those governments if he would just break his integrity to God. Satan knew the plan--he knew that in order for Jesus to become the sacrificial lamb, he had to be equal to what Adam had lost (perfection as a human). One act of disobedience would nullify his ability to be that sacrifice.

Jesus was full of holy spirit (completely aware of his heavenly life with his God and Father) and he was quoting scripture as the highest authority and best way to rebuke Satan. Eventually, Satan realized that he was getting no where and left him alone but not without returning again in the future.

Satan was likely using the same strategy that had earlier worked on Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden.

Quite possibly, the temptations were also very much the same. We just get more details this time.

It's also likely that these temptations were constant, and not just a one time event.

The strategy:

Take advantage of human weakness (hunger, lonlieness, fatigue).

Attemp to confuse, and "break" the truth of the word of God (the scriptures).

Make an appeal to human pride.

Make an appeal to human greed.

It was here that Satan probably decided he would have to get his minions, the Jews and the Romans, to kill Christ, as Satan couldn't tolerate this type of a real threat against his long established dominion of evil.

Jesus was tempted by the devil just like we are tempted. Many times the devil will use Scripture in trying to deceive us. The devil questioned Jesus authority. Then he tried to bribe Him. Jesus also used the Word of God as His sword to combat the devil's lies, which we should do when the devil tries to tempt us. God bless you also!

Man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that procedes from the mouth of God.
