My boyfriend and I are talking about getting married, becoming officially engaged in a few months. I would love to get married in November because my parents will be celebrating 25 years together then and it would mean a lot to me. However, that would leave only 5 months from the formal engagement to the wedding. I don't want to inform my parents, who will be assisting financially til I'm formally engaged. (Though my mom has been probing me on the subject a lot lately) Not looking to have anything big or extravagant, just a small gathering of friends and family--the only thing I really want is a gorgeous dress. Is 5 months long enough to plan a small wedding(and by small, I mean small)? Thoughts and personal experiences welcomed :)

We waited until after my husband's daughter got married in August 2005 to plan our wedding in January 2006. I had plenty of time, although I didn't wear a traditional wedding gown. We had 60 people at our wedding. The dress is what will take the longest, sometimes 3-4 months. I suggest you start looking at dresses just to get an idea, and ask them how long it will take to get it once it's ordered. Hopefully, you will find a dress and will be able to get it in time. Good luck

Depends on how many people, where you want it, and how foofoo you want it to be.

From your explanation, I'd say five months is a good amount of time. Start hunting for that dress now though, as I'm not sure how long it would take for the dress and alterations to be made since you want a knock em dead dress.

Congrats!

definetly im guessing the only thing that would take long is the dress if it has to be altered alot or finding it. and five months is enough time for people to make arangments to be their. i had a three month engagement and my wedding was just how i wanted it to be. and it wasnt frantic cause i already had an idea of what i wanted for it. congrats and good luck

That's plenty of time to get your wedding together.
Start planning now secretly so that when you do make the announcement you will have a lot of things underway.
The key to planning a wedding is staying organized. If you don't possess this talent, enlist help.

i had a nice cute little wedding planned in a week. that was last minute reservation of the place and the person to marry us. you can do it no problem. if you have a friend of family member who knows some of what to do it's helpful...otherwise buy wedding magazines or search online. =)

I think that's pleanty of time. My boyfriend says when we get engaged, he only wants a 6 month engagement. SO.....Good luck to you! It can be done! Have fun with it and don't get too stressed out!

If it is a small wedding, that will give you enough time. Share your happiness with your parents. That will make their anniversary more special.

Of course it can be done! Especially if it's small. I would start mapping out stuff now (the date, guest list, your dress, bridal party outfits, food, drinks, location, location, location!)

GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS!
