I had 1995 grandam for years and had good luck with it even after it had 130,000 miles on it. I traded it in for an 01 and have had nothing but trouble. I have put quite a lot of money into it.

go to www.carreview.com, click on reviews. You can then find the vehicle of your choice to find reviews on. You will be able to pick pontiac grand am specific. Then read the reviews people have left regarding that vehicle. You can see how many people liek or dislike their vehicle. I used it to buy my vehicle by reading the reviews. It helped alot because the vehicle I bought, I knew what quirks I might expect to have happen, knock on wood none have ever showed up after 131,000 miles.

My wife put 67,000 miles on our '02 before we traded it in - almost no problems at all (there was one minor problem). She'd tell you she had a lead foot, too. These cars were meant to be driven.

You may have gotten one that was abused - it's so hard to tell from just a snippet of a question. As always, maintenance is the key to longevity.

The 'apprentice' with 2 years of experience? I'd say I'll listen to him when he gets some good years under his belt. You work on a lot of Grand Ams because there are so many of them out there, not because they were problems.

How hard do you drive it? I have had a white GT coupe for the past 170K miles and have had not a problem. Did you purchase this car used? Maybe the last owner didn't take care of it? Trade it in for a G6- Dont let this one ruin you on Pontiac, they are such good cars, its the only brand I own.

I work in a garage, and Grand Am's are the most common car we have coming through the shop. Many problems, from leaking engines, to bad wiring. I would personaly never buy one becaue they are not incredibly well made anymore. when they moved over to the rounded body style from the older squairer style, the problems started showing.

There are many thousands of people who are in your situation with this and other GM models. The salesman who took your money for this car should have been wearing a mask because they robbed you.
