ok my daughter was born with polydactyly which is excess digits which i was told is hereditary.... so my question is ... is that the same thing as being born with only six fingers all together?

polydactyl simply means that one is born with more than 5 digits on either hand or feet.

No. Polydactyly is hereditary. There is not hereditary info for being born with less fingers. This is a genetic mutation.

No, polydactyly is having 6 fingers or toes on each hand or foot not 6 fingers or toes altogether.
