Its better for any puppy to go to a home where it will be allowed in the house to be with the family. So until the time when your mum thinks she and you can together take care of a puppy, then there should be no puppy. It usually takes two people to care for a little puppy. Even a full grown dog is like having a toddler in the house. I considered a dog as needing two parents like a two year old.

When I was a young child I always wanted a horse.. but we never lived where horses were allowed.. When I got married, we lived on enough land to have two horses and I loved them dearly but they were not as bright as what I had dreamed about and very dangerous to be around. We sold them for what we paid and I learned about children's dreams not always being as accurate as the reality. I should have left it as a dream. One horse threw my daughter over his head right in front of me and then walked over her to get to his favorite munchy.. dandilions. I held my breath with each hoof he put down, praying that he wouldn't step on her.. and when he was past her I gathered up my daughter and never saddled him up again. I knew at last that my parents really didn't want me to be exposed to such a dangerous animal. I thanked God that my own daughter survived being thrown and walked over. Don't think too badly of your mum if she says no dog. She may have a very good reason she says no.

Dogs are pack animals, and we are their pack. When dogs are left alone outside, they become lonely and will bark, dig, claw and make a nuisance of themselves. They can also become mean. Read the article at the link below. It's by the Michigan Humane Society, and it will give you a really good idea why you should not have a dog if your Mum won't allow it in the house. You'll just have to wait until you have your own place and then get a puppy.

Would she be OK with an older dog? Like maybe a dog that's 1-4 years old - that's still young for a dog, and you wouldn't have to work as hard housetraining him or teaching him not to bite or chew. What about getting a small dog - something that's not too overbearing to be kept inside? You should see if they have any dogs like this at your local shelter, or if you know what breed you want, some breeders sell their dogs once they're finished breeding them, so you could ask them.

Other than that, I think the key is showing your mom that you have the responsibility it takes to care for the dog - feeding, walking, cleaning up after the dog, going with mom and dog to the vet, etc. And persistence helps too!

No.

A dog is a huge commitment and requires the cooperation of everyone who lives in the house. If not everyone's on board about getting a dog, then you should never bring a dog into that situation.

You can't. It's not fair to a dog to always have to be outside if he is suppose to be a pet. Do the dog a favor and let him find a home that he can go into.
