Like, if you learned about it later in your life, would you still become Christian?

And if you were raised freethought.

2007-02-19 17:18:59 · update #2

I guess what I'm asking is if you had been raised freethinking, would you still be the kind of person that would be drawn to Christianity?

I just think that a lot of Christians would say that they would be Christian no matter what, even though that's probably not what would actually happen.

That's not an easy one to answer. My dad isn't a Christian but my mom is. I didn't go to church much when I was growing up but my mom would tell me about Jesus. I saw a lot of inconsistencies in my home and when I got old enough I moved out and lived life the way I wanted to, or so I thought. It definitely wasn't a Christian way of life....honestly I didn't want anything to do with it. But as I got older and aspired to success, I started to feel an emptiness that I just couldn't fill with anything. I looked at religion...Budhism, Taoism, Wicca, etc. but they didn't do much for me in the way of that emptiness. I finally came to believe in Christ when I had a personal encounter with Him. I have a relationship with Him now and that's more than any religion can or will ever give you. If God hadn't drawn me to Him, then, no, I probably wouldn't be a Christian. But I'm so thankful He did.

I was born and raised Christian. I broke away from any religious affiliation after becoming confused by all of the contradictory views of Christians. My plan was to research it in depth as well as other religions to the best that I could. I am still hold no particualr affiliations but right now Islam is making alot more sense than Christianity. I challenge everyoen to do the same, research your own spiritual and religious beliefs as well as other ones.

Yes, Christianity is a religion... Even though one may not be raised as a Christian, it is still possible that that individual may convert into Christianity. I don't feel like it is ever too late, while still on earth, to become saved. Just repent for your sins and ask God to redeem the time.

Just because one is raised Christian doesn't make them find CHrist. Once you are mature to look and study into it is when you can accept it and follow the faith. I have done this and I can now say I'm a Christian. So basically I woul dlook into it if I was not raised Christian.

Good question... and the answer is no. Reason being, your upbringing affects every aspect of your life, from religion, politics, and every social facet of your character, the values instilled and passed on by your parents molds every perception or opinion a person embodies.

To have been raised in another part of the world would mean that you would represent that cultures values.

No. I was raised Christian, but am not now. If I wasn't raised Christian, then I'd have even a much lesser tie to it.

I wasn't raised as a Christian or to be a Christian. As I studied in my twenties, I decided to be a Christian.

There is no religion higher than the truth. The truth can only be discovered with the evidence of the senses and logic. Faith is the desire to know by feeling, without using the mind.

I believe I would, because in my beliefs, it was God who called me. He would have given me another chance even if i wasn't raised Christian. There would have been someone else to witness to me. Which is why I try to witness to others without being all like "Hell fire and damnation await you!!"
