My ex and I have been broken up for quite a while but he still calls me pretty often and none of us had really moved on until I recently started dating someone new. I had no intention of telling my ex because we had both agreed that we don't wanna hear about these things, but then after he called me 3 times in one day I felt that I should tell him. He sounded devastated and got off the phone. I called back and he sounded like he was crying and he said he doesn't want to talk to me!

Was it stupid to tell him??

Was'nt stupid, obviously he still cares for you.Call you're ex again and ask him if he has a problem with you getting on with your life.May'be he'd want to get back with you.Now if that does'nt interest you, tell him you'd still like to be his buddy, friend, confidant or whatever but you want to move on.Good Luck

Telling an ex about you seeing someone is not stupid it's an act of honesty and I know not just me but everyone agree telling him is just thr right move.. But one thing I could say if you are sure that you really want to see a new guy and you don't love your ex anymore that's good but then if you are doing that just for you to move but you still love him then that is a big mistake too. I was once in your shoes but then I lied to myself I picked the guy that I was dating but then he still love me and I love him too but then the relationship that I had with my ex was already a cycle a cylce could never end. So, sister, if you think that you don't love your ex anymore you are just doing a good job about telling him the truth, but if you do then go back to him and start a new fresh start with him...... I hope I helped you it's just through my experience.

No, it wasn't stupid to tell him. It was honest. He may be hurt that you are with someone new, but you aren't together any more. He probably was calling like he was because he may have been interested in keeping the relationship together. But if he was too scared to tell you what he wanted, he lost out.

You may have been able to tell him differently to ease a bit of the pain, but that was the only thing you might have done differently. As I said, you were honest. Eventually, if he still wants to be "friends" with you, he will call you again. And he'll respect you even more for being honest with him.

Good luck!

was it worth it? :)

the last slice to his heart to make sure that nothing is left to attach them back together... that's probably how he feels, but he must learn to accept things and if it is going to hurt you to see him hurt, then you still have feelings for him... then it comes back to the question I asked you, was it worth it?

there is no right or wrong answers, it's a choice made from a spontaneous thought, which caused the chain reaction to pull him down back onto the earth's soil... it's time for him to accept... and it is also time for you to move on.

who knows, you might meet in the same path again one day and realized how to appreciate everything, but for now, let it flow with time and see where it will go... you'll both come out as a better person at the end, this is how we learn and grow... it just might take some time.

good luck

Based on what you said, it sounds like he needed to know. He is probably hurt, and may have thought you were going to get back together since you were talking so much. Continuing the friendship on that level may have actually made him think you were playing hard to get or something.

He'll get over it. Right now he's hurt and maybe a bit shocked. It doesn't sound like you did it to hurt him or get revenge, so I'd say you're probably OK.

no not at all. you did what was right, good for you. he needs to grow some balls! if you didnt tell him then you could have put your relationship in jeapordy bc hed keep calling and your current bf may get curious or jealous.... so good job. your ex should get over it eventually. dont try to call him or make him feel better- just let him know that you are still there as a friend but you have other priorities now.... good luck :)

I know how it feels for him, but you have to do this bcoz it will set him free, no matter who initiate the break up, the other party should always know that comming together again is virtually impossible, so its time to move on and get better things in life, my ex kept in touch with me after we broke up, one fine day he told me he was going to marry the girl ( i knew he was with the girl.) he was with, it came as a slap to me waking all dreams of getting together again with him , after that i avoided him ltogether, i know its a loser to do so, but i could no longer face him, you decide your life, what you have already done, no use crying over spilled milk, move on , k?

No, it's not stupid. It would happen sooner or later that you were dating, and he needs to face reality. Perhaps he has been hanging onto a fantasy of getting back together. As long as you aren't cruel, then you are doing the right thing.
