Just "be there" for him, and remind him that you love him.
In my family, when my dad died, all of us kids came together.. and at that time we were not so close.
What we all fail to realize during times such as these, is our
"perspective" ... in other words, truly counting our blessings..
when we are faced with such a painful loss.

Remind him how much his mother loved him.
That she would never want to see him suffer.
That she only wanted to see him grow as a boy to becoming
a man..

A man she would be so "Proud" of.

You really need to be there for him.

No matter what he may say..
he is in pain.

I trust that he will find comfort in your words..
your touch.. your kindness.

And..

most importantly...

Your Love.

Be strong.

Just being there for him is enough right now. You should allow him to think things through by him self unless he wants your opinion on things. Usually the family support systems comes naturally. Their sense of closeness are wide open at these times . But eventually everything will be ok. I haven't forgotten my mother who crossed over back in 1979 but I did move on.
