Why would you think there is nudity in Bangkok or in Thailand itself? People don't walk around nude on the streets in your country nor do they here. Yes there are clubs and bars where scantily dressed women 'entertain' the punters but I am sure this happens in New York, SF, LA, London, Paris, Berlin and any other largish city you can name.

If you come to Thailand with that attitude then I suggest you will not enjoy anything about the country so go somewhere familiar like Canada or Spain.

It will be fine, just avoid the areas mentioned above. We actually stayed in Patpong and it wasn't that bad but I still don't recommend it for you.
One of the most fascinating things about Thailand is the attitude they have toward their thriving sex industry. It's much healthier in my opinion that the American attitude.
If you go to Vegas everyone is all American and corporate about prostitution. You walk down the street and have people forcing prostitution ads with pictures of half naked women on you. No matter who you are with or if even if you've made it clear you are not interested. It's all about the advertising and money making - very in your face.
However, you would never see anyone in Vegas casually having breakfast with their prostitute the next morning. Because even though Americans will advertise it and profit from it - it is considered very bad and meant to be kept behind closed doors.

In Thailand, it is a different attitude. Although, in Patpong, I had a few people try and get me to go to the ping-pong show, for the most part I was left alone. Also, no one would approach my male travel companion while I was with him. I actually saw people start to and when they realized we were together they backed off. (still only in patpong)
They are just way more polite about. If people want sex they are in Bangkok and can easily seek it out on their own. The Thai do not throw it in your face the way they do in Vegas. However they are much more honest and open in the sense that you will see couples around the city, that you will recognize as prostitution. They will be out seeing the sites or having breakfast. Usually older western men with young Thai women or young Thai men.
There is plenty of family oriented stuff in Bangkok and you needn't worry if you stay out of the areas above. If only the rest of the world were so courteous...

You seem to have heard some things about Bangkok that are not so good. Bangkok is a modern city and of course there are some areas that are not so good. But Bangkok is a very big city and most of it is not that style.

There are many family things to do in Bangkok. These are some:-

(1) Dreamworld - very big leisure park outside Bangkok, a bit like Disneyworld
(2) Safari World - wildlife park near Bangkok - also has some animal shows. Most people go to the shows in the morning and tour the wildlife park in the afternoon
(3) Science Museum - very big science museum - It has lots about space, natural history (dinosaurs), as well as some areoplanes - plenty of things that children will like to see
(4) Dusit Zoo - all the animals that you would expect to see in a zoo - lions, tigers, monkies, giraffes, etc. - near the center of Bangkok.

If you would like to ask me more about these places, you can send me an email through Yahoo Answers and I will give you more information about them.

Hi, what you hear are not the true Bangkok. There is still plenty of family oriented prorams to be had in Bangkok. The seedy stories you hear only belong to a very small part of the big city and where foreigners who make Bangkok seem like one big redlight district!

Just go and enjoy with your family. You will not come across any nudity unless you want to visit the bars. And this is the same anywhere in the world.

Visit www.tourismthailand.org for the places of attraction in Bangkok.

You can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com id you have other query.

The majority of Thai's are very modest and respectable. Thailand does have a reputation for sex tourism but it certainly is not thrown in your face. Avoid Soi Cowboy, Patpong Road and Nana Plaza in Bangkok at night and you are unlikely to be offended.
I would also suggest giving Pattaya a miss because it is similarly vice ridden.
I have lived in Thailand for 12 years and have had no real problems.

lol. ok...there is no nudeness, only pubs and stuff, and its not extreme
ive lived here all my life, never been outta thailand and ive never faced problems.
however, avoid soi cowboy and patpong!! and pattaya......
the rest of bangkok is fine. there are really nice hotels, plaza athenee, sheraton grande etc......lumpini park, the night bazaar...
or you can take your family to Wat Phra Kaew...Wat Arun, Thai people are extremely respectful when it comes to the temples. or take barge on a river cruise.
however, bangkok is more of a metropolis than a 'family thing', i suggest you go somewhere else, ayutthaya, chiang mai, phuket... andyou will find that Thai people, despite THailand's sex tourism reputation, are actually very respectful and kind.
have a nice time here, if you do come, no where else is quite the same!
PS..ignore people saying "farang" they mean no harm.
