now everyone knows what 666 really is. It's inventory tracking number, all merchandise has it and most marketing toll free numbers has it. It's not really a man, is it?

Before the invention of figures by the Arabs, in the tenth century, letters of the alphabet were used for numbers. The Greeks in the time of Homer, or soon after, are thought by some to have assigned to their letters a numerical value corresponding to their order in the alphabet. If you are familiar with the Greek of the New Testament, an argument can be made that the 666 is an allusion to Emperor Nero. Just as easily an argument can be made that the 666 refers to a "Latin Power" or, the Roman Catholic Church, Julius Caeser Atheus, Luther, and others.
As you can see from the above, there is no consensus on the interpretation.

Devil: A dusty book would not be in a dusty state if it were being read - wouldn't it ? As far as, the number 666 goes, there is a whole metric tonne of speculation on what this symbolic number portrays. Maybe John the Apostle had the page inverted and was scribing 999 - just kidding !!!

It is the number of the Antichrist and the mark of the beast. It will be placed on the forehead or back of hand of every individual during the Tribulation period to allow them to "buy" and "sell." If you take the mark of the beast (perhaps a computer chip, or some other identification tracking system) you have doomed your soul to hell for eternity - there is no repentance available after that moment. If you do not take the mark of the beast then you will be hunted down and beheaded. But if you accept Christ as Savior before you are beheaded, you have eternal life.

It was a pretty long number when the only entities were Adam, Eve, Satan, God, and a few angels.
