I had a small cellulitis skin infection on my ankle last month. I went to the doctor and he gave an antibiotic and the infection cleared and it looked like the area healed. But about two weeks later a light rash broke out mostly above where the infection used to be but also around the general area. The doctor says it is just the area healing from the infection and may take several weeks to go away and that it is nothing to be concerned about.

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever ran into this?

My only health issue is some borderline hypertention due to family history. Other than that all other test results have been normal.

Cellulitis is usually caused by either Staph Aureus or Strep. If it was strep, it can sometimes but rarely leave behind toxins that can cause a rash. And it can take the body several weeks to months to mop that up. It is more likely this could happen if the infection was deep or if the doctor was unable to drain the infection. The toxins ended up trapped beneith the skin and the rash is the body's reaction to those toxins.

It is unlikely the infection has come back unless you develop symptoms of an infection or the rash is quickly spreading, however the rash will weaken the skin and could allow new bacteria in. So keep the area clean.

Unless the rash gets worse or other symptoms develop, it probably isn't something to be too worried about right now. The area where the cellulitis was is probably going to be inflammed, discolored, and may scar. So that is expected.

Cellulitis is a bacterial infection...You need to ask your doctor for an antibiotic, because it's not something that can be treated topically. Ask about Levaquin--it's indicated for Skin and SKin Structure infections. Should clear it up in a couple of days.

I developed cellulitus after a surgery. Worse pain I've ever encountered. The only thing that I noticed after it had healed up was that there was some discoloration at the site for awhile (kind of looked like a bruise). It eventually went away.

Firstly, i am NOT a medical professional. Two if you are concerned over your doctor, change. While your Dr should warn you of side-effects or interctions, the accompanying literature does, so read it. Stop taking the medication, if it is the medication causing it, it will subside, and yes go to a Dr sooner rather than later.
