All death is harder on those who are left behind than on the person dying. Suicide is a statement to those left behind and if only those who have to clean up are about they've learn to ignore such statements. Religion, covers a lot of beliefs. Just believing in yourself is a religion. To believe fully in the earth beneath your feet is a religion. Believe enough to challenge one tomorrow after another is a religion.
Can you still say religion isn't your thing. Not organized religion, but the religion of life.

Suicide IS the ultimate act of selfishness because the only way a person can take their own life is to not even care about the effect it will have on others. What about the person who has to find the one who put a bullet through his head and clean up the mess? How much trauma could that cause the family member or friend who finds that? To do such a thing you have to block out the effect it will have on others, therefore it is selfish, because you are only thinking of yourself and how you don't think you can live. Riddle me this: How is suicide an act of helping someone else? It's not, that proves it is selfish. Religion has nothing to do with it. It is an easy way to escape the problems of this world and not face up to them.

I think some people say you are being selfish because you're not thinking of the long-term effects on others, not to mention yourself. The Bible says that God has a plan for your life, a plan for good and not for evil. Psalm 27:10 says: Even though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me in. So, now you can't say that no one cares for you. Religion isn't my thing, either, but a relationship with Jesus Christ is. If you're thinking of suicide, please talk to someone about it...someone you can trust....a hotline.

Because oftentimes the person committing suicide isn't considering other people when they do it. It's the people left behind who suffer. The one's wanting to hurt themselves are having a self-pity party that no one else is invited to.
I think everyone has at LEAST one person who cares about them deeply. They may just be so wrapped up in their own woes or depression they aren't seeing that.
As for religion - I think people can combat depression without religion. Suicide is not so much a "religious" issue as it is a psychological and physiological issue. Those who commit suicide often have chemical imbalances causing the depression that makes them want to kill themselves. Therapy and medication can really help most people who suffer from depression.

I suppose that since suicide is killing your SELF it can be considered SELFish. Makes sense to me.
Lots of people have nobody who cares about them. It's not unusual.
If religion isn't your thing try quilting or crosswords.

I tried it once. i know others who were successful. i felt a terrible sense of loss. i know a guy who failed, brain damage. i did feel a sense of selfishness. loneliness. an easy way out. each and every case it was a terrible act. it is terrible to see some one who blows his brains out. never have i seen any benefit. i've seen more than my share.

Well, when you commit suicide, you're doing a lot of emotional harm to your friends and family. Especially your parents.
But, I don't consider it a selfish act. I consider it a deeply sad act, and the result of someone not getting the help s/he needed.

have you ever resented any thing and just wanted tom say sorry about it
suicide removes that option ,it is selfish because it closes the book
it is criminal because it kills a life
it is a sin because it traps your soul in the body till the body has turned to dust ,the spirit stays trapped in it till the last of its flesh disolves
they effectivly are trapped in the flesh ,till thier appointed time to die comes ,dead yet not dead

When you commit suicide, you'll bring pain and sorrow to those who loves you.
If you don't have anyone then you're selfish for littering the place with your dead body.
