He was in the Coast Guard; so why call him Airman?

I am no expert on the USCG but would bet it is similar to the USN in that those members with aviation ratings are called Airman until reaching the rank of Petty Officer third class. Since AK was an Aviation survival specialist he would be an airman.

It wasn't. They called him "Seaman". That's an E-3 in the Navy and Coast Guard

it was his rank..he was an aircrewman before striking for rescue swimmer....same as Senior(Chief) was the other name used...(for whats his face).
