If we were to ask someone how old the earth was 1000 years ago, the response would be probably 6000 years old as in the bible. Or if we asked, was the earth created in 7 days or was it created in 7 days "in the eyes of god"? We would've got the response of oh well the same 7 days in the eyes of man. The only reason answers have changed is because now we can prove things. if tomorrow we found out the universe was really 6000 some odd years old wouldn't every religious person on here say look proof!

Actually, it doesn't change its mind, and that is one of the problems with it. As we learn more and more through science, the gap between religion and reality just keeps growing.

Some religious people may change thier minds, but the Word of God does not need to change to be at harmony with science. There is a myth that the Bible and science are at odds. Nothing can be further from the truth. Where there is conflict, it is because of a lack of knowledge on the part of many, but not all, scientists of what the Bible actually says. The ones changing thier minds the most are unbelieving scientists. Look how the theories have been changing over time, and how the debates among them rage. Don't buy into the nonsense that all scientists are universally in agreement with one another. There is sharp division among many. There is an over-abundance of scientific evidence for a young earth, as well as evidence of a global hydraulic catastrophe that buried billions of living things that we find today as fossils. The theory of particles-to-people evolution is believed by many people, not because of the evidence, but in spite of it. Many of these people don't believe in a Creator, so they have to come up with some other idea to explain how once upon a time some unattended particles put themselves together into complex systems. This makes about as much scientific sense as a tornado blowing through a junkyard and producing a Boing 767. Make no mistake, This is a battle for souls and the battlefield is the mind. If one could undermind the first five words of the Bible, "In the beginning God created...", then one could undermine the whole Bible. How people interpret the evidence is heavily influenced by thier worldview. An excellent website is "Answers in Genesis", especially if you like science.

>Commenting on claims that the creative days were only 24 literal hours in length, molecular biologist Francis Collins remarks: "Creationism has done more harm to serious notions of belief than anything in modern history."<

>Genesis 2:4 speaks of
"the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven."

This 1 Day encompasses All 6 Creative DayS of Genesis ch.1.

According to Bible usage, a day is a measured period of time,
& can be a thousand years or Many thousands of years.

The Bible's creative days allow for ThousandS of YearS, each.

Further, the earth was Already in existence
Before the creative days began. (Genesis 1:1)

On this point, therefore,
the Bible account IS compatible with true science. -- 2 Peter 3:8<

[Is it not Creationism's account that is amiss?]

Reconciling Science and Religion
- An Enduring Quest
- - Accept the Limits
- - Let the known facts speak
> - The Creative Days--24 Hours Each? <
- - Faith, not credulity
- - Respect science; acknowledge belief

People believe what they choose to believe.
Science is not exact, but theories and suppositions.
The statements in the Bible are yet to be proven wrong.
For example,
Every country on earth has handed down the story of a great flood, covering the earth. Archeologists have verified the evidence of such a flood, and the ark has been found on the very mountain where the Bible said it was. Yes, I believe this is the type of historical proof you speak of, confirming the Bible's truth. We literally do not know just how long the "7 days of creation" were in today's time. We do not know if the earth was created entirely new from the beginning, or if it was formed to appear to be aged.
Not all facts can be proven.
Faith is believing what cannot be seen.
And faith in God is where spiritual relationship initiates.

my dear, science has never once proved the Bible wrong. I believe that the earth was created in literal 24 hour days (the evening and the morning were the...day). Just as "science" learns, so people who study the Bible "learn." The Bible is infallible but our understanding of what is in the Bible is not - that is why it must be "studied." Gen. 1:1 God created...and before we get to Gen. 1:2 we have the chronology of scripture which tells us of the fall of Lucifer and war in heaven - then we get "the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep..." Who knows what God really created "in the beginning" - were there other civilizations? Were they wiped out by the 'war' - did dinosaurs exist during this period? God does not say. If it has been 6000 years from the time of Adam & Eve, that doesn't mean the earth is that old necessarily but that mankind as we know it, is that old. The revelation of God through His Word is an ongoing study just as science is an ongoing study. But this I know - "science" will never disprove the Word of God.

Religion only changes if it takes the Bible literally. The Bible was not meant to be taken literally. The Bible shows us how man has grown in his faith and understanding of GOD throughout history. Jesus was the ultimate revelation of GOD. The Bible gives us spiritual guidance for today, it is timeless because it is the Word of GOD.

Truth is science is simply the study of how God created the world. The Bible is not meant to tell us how God did what He did, but why.

Religion needs to accept the science facts, but doesn't mean we can't still believe God is responsible.
Education and knowledge are always the best way to bring enlightenment.

correct. It doesn't matter how many things are proven wrong about the Bible to most believers. Just look at Galileo, he was tried for heresy after proving that the Earth really rotated the sun because he contradicted the Bible.
