actually i have had really bad experience with lice. My grandmother finally looked up some information on-line and believe it or not....just regular mayonnaise works....if you rub it into the scalp really good (and of course cover the rest of the hair) and wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it sit for about a half an hour then wash it out...lathering it first, then shampooing with regular shampoo until it is all out. It suffocates the nits and makes it easier to comb out...it helps if you already have one of the combs that comes with the kits. Make sure to wash everything or if it is clean you can just stick clothes and whatnot in the drier for about 45 minutes or even put things that you are not able to put in the drier in the freezer for a couple days. For some reason I could never get rid of it with all the over the counter shampoos to treat it but when it came to Mayo, it actually worked and its a lot cheaper of course....and lasts longer...just stick it in the bottom of the fridge and label it so no one eats it. If you have any more questions you can IM me or e-mail me...i have had wayyyy more experience with this than I would have liked.

I have had my battles with my children on lice. The best and only method I could get rid of it was to buy the over the counter shampoo but make sure you are using the gel part right (as I was not) put the gel on the comb first and then go downward on the childs hair piece by piece. It is frustrating but it works. First you may want to buy some sticky gel and wash your child's head and then put gel on it and it may work just as well. The gel works as a glue to pick up the lice and eggs.

I'm know this is probably not the same type of lice, but my son came inside from playing when he was young and he had lice crawling all over him. He had climbed the up the pole holding the bird house to see if there was a nest and eggs inside and got lice from the birds. I immediately put him into the tub/shower fully clothed, thinking that the lice would drown. He used plenty of soap, rinsed off, and they were still there and still crawling! I tried pouring Listerine over his hair and it killed them on contact, so he bathed himself with it, then showered normally. I poured the rest of the Listerine over his clothes still in the tub before taking them to the washer, and didn't have any more problems. I don't know if it would work for your kids, but may be worth a try.

Call your doctor and ask for a prescription for about 300 ml of qwell shampoo. This will cover future attacs and you will not spend all that money in the drug store which doesnt work. Bag up your pillows and blankets for about a week and vacume. Throw your hairbrushes and combs into a sink of hot water with the qwell shampoo in the water and let them soak for about 1 hr.
My daughter literally had head lice for 4 yrs. She was being re infected at her dads house. She came home permanently and now its gone.....for good. Thank your Lord! Someone is probably re infecting the kids and you have to be thorough to get rid of it all. They may even be sittin in the collar of the jackets and coats your kids are wearing. Bag everything. Good luck.

My daughter has gotten lice a few times from school and my hairdresser said that lice prefers clean hair (believe it or not) and that each morning after I comb her hair to just spray a layer of hairspray on her hair. There has been two more outbreak at school and ahe has not gotten it since I started to do this.

There's no way to prevent future outbreaks but to be vigilant and check your children's hair at least weekly.

Give them a bag to put their hats and scarves in at school, especially if they have to share a cubby or locker with someone. This will isolate their belongings to cut down on transfer of lice from other children's things.

But, by "outbreaks" did you mean nits hatching? You have to remove all the nits (eggs). This means combing them out meticulously. I also soaked my daughter's head in olive oil (had her wear a shower cap over it) for several hours, then meticulously combed, picked and snipped out the nits, nymphs and lice. I nearly went crazy - and I only have the one kid. Hang in there!

Put product in your child's hair when they go to school. Lice do not like hairspray, gel, etc. Also, the most commonly overlooked area to treat is your car. Spray the seats with the lice killing spray from the pharmacy to prevent reoccurring outbreaks.

Try some drops of Tea Tree oil in your shampoo on a regular basis. Head lice do not like it.

Good luck. You have my sympathies. It's REALLY frustrating.

Put a bunch of mayo. on the hair and cover with a garbage bag. Let sit a couple hours. Works like a charm! Still have to comb out though.
