He has a favorite toy, it sounds like. The stuffed cat is probably very comforting to him at this point. Eventually he'll outgrow it.
Don't worry. In fact, you can enhance his enjoyment if you, too, play a bit with the cat, like setting a plate for it at the dinner table or kissing it goodnight.
Seriously, there's no cause for alarm. A good imagination is a sign of intelligence.

NO ! YOU SHOULD BE EXCITED THAT YOUR SON HAS AN IMAGINATION, THAT HE IS TRYING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A "PET" AND CARING FOR IT SO WELL. I AM ASSUMING THAT HE IS AN ONLY CHILD, OR HIS SIBLINGS ARE NOT YET AT THE PLAY STAGE ?
IS HE ROLL REVERSING YOU OR YOUR HUSBAND ? WATCH AND SEE IF IT IS YOU OR YOUR HUSBAND'S MANNERISMS, PHRASING, ETC (HIS IDLES).
HAVE SNACK TIME - ALL THREE OF YOU - PLAY ALONG, IT WON'T LAST LONG AND THEN HE'LL BE ONTO SOMETHING NEW. ENJOY ! GOOD LUCK !

Completly totally normal, infact it only means that he has a great imagination. But make sure he has real friends to play with.

I don't see anything to worry about as long as he also has 'real' friends.
