My 15 month old son has Eczema he is on a cream from the doctor but it doesnt seem to be helping. He also doesnt eat ANY veggies and only eats bananas as a fruit. He doesnt like the wet juicy feeling!

So here are my 3 questions:
How do you treat your childs eczema?
Any fruits or veggies out there that can be mixed with something else so that he will eat them?
Do you/Can you give your toddler vitamin supplements? If so what do you give them?

THANKS A BUNCH!

Add shredded veggies & fruit (for example: zucchini, carrots or apples) to pancake batter, muffin mix, quick breads, pasta sauce.

Offer veggies or fruit with dip - steamed carrot strips with ranch dip or hummus, strawberries with yogurt

make smoothies - yogurt, milk, frozen berries in the blender until smooth

blend cooked veggies in to other foods your child will eat - cauliflower puree mixed in to mac & cheese

offer healthy choices often and retry rejected foods few weeks later - little taste buds change quickly

Talk to your child's pediatrician about vitamins. We have a prescription vitamin/fluoride combo drop for our kids.

Eczema - try mild soap & lotion like Cetaphil and only bathe baby 2-3 times a week.

For your son's eczema, try giving him oatmeal baths. Aveno has all kinds of products you can use with whatever cream your doctor presribed. Hydrocortizone 2% did nothing for my daughter by itself, I use the oatmeal baths, I only bath her about 4 days out of the week and I keep her skin moisterized, Eucerin or Aquaphor are good for that. As far as fruits and veggies, I give her what she likes first, l don't have a problem with fruits, but with the veggies I mix them in with rice or with a little of the fruits and sometimes its okay. If all else fails I wait until she's really hungry and she'll eat them. Talk with you doctor about the vitamin supplement first, my daughter drinks Pediasure so she can get whatever she's missing.

1) My best friend's son has terrible eczema. What worked best for him was bathing with Aveno oatmeal baby wash and a good rub down afterwards with Aquaphor cream. He was a greasy little man, but it worked great.

2)Fruits and veggies can be cleverly put into things that kids already like. If he will eat breads, make him some fruit breads with applesauce as the sweetener. Also, try smoothies, pastas with veggie fillings, mashed potatoes with little bits of broccoli or carrots in them, and whole fruit popsicles. You can get creative with the foods he likes and try to "sneak" in the things he doesn't.

3)I would occasionally give my children supplements. GNC carries vitamins that are gummies. These work well. They also have adult forms that are like chewy caramels. I would give them half of the adult chewies or a gummy after their breakfast. They thought they were getting a little treat, but I was making sure they got their vitamins.

There is a recipie that the pediatrician gave me called "butt balm" I make it and use it anytime i have a rash or eczema flareup. 2 tablespoons mint malox, 1 tube triple anitbiotic cream, and 1 tube of the anti yeast foot cream (i forget the name of it but you'll what i'm talking about when you're looking at the foot products) anyway, mix it all up and keep it in a sealable container or even ziplock baggie and rub it in a few times a day (also good for diaper rash). I had eczema as a child and the only thing i found to help was sunlight, especially when I started indoor tanning (of course thats not an option for an 18 month old lol).
as far as veggie go my kids didnt really like them until they were older, I used to try mix them into mashed potatoes, etc and try to "hide" them, sometimes it worked. I never discussed it with my pediatrician but I give my 18 month old gummyvites (1 a day for his size) (you can get them at costco) I think the bottle says 3 and up take two so I figured 1 for his size wouldnt hurt anything and he does great on them, I did this for my older kids when they were little too.

ok i am going through the same thing with eczema with my 19 month old daughter. the doctors said that it is a layering process. first they gave me the eucerin lotion for her and it wasn't helping so now i have to use hydro-cortisone and the lotion. it helps with the redness and scaliness. but i haven't found anything that will help with the itchiness. she scratches all the time so i keep her in pants, a onesie, and a long sleeved shirt especially when she goes to bed and that has seemed to calm down her scratching. the doctors told me that eczema is associated with asthma and allergies. which is the case with my daughter so keep an eye out for those things as well. now about the fruits and veggies question my daughter eats them with no problem but my son on the other hand that used to seem like a losing battle. but my husband and i found out that if you put some on his plate and he sees you eating them and you over exaggerate how good they are (these are so good and yummy) then he will probably be tempted to try them and if he does give him alot of praise even if he spits it out at least he tried. he might not like them at first but keep cheering him on and soon things will start to progress and he will be eating them regularly. i really don't know anything about the vitamin supplements so i am not going to attempt to answer that one and give you false info. hope this helps.

The doctor prescribed a very strong cream for my daughter's eczema, and worked very well. I'll give you the name in a minute. It's a prescription medication.
Yes, you can blend/mash together some veggies for your child. I usually use potatoes or squash as a base and add things like carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, celery and my children barely notice the difference.
I give my children vitamin supplements since they were very small. My 3yo is a fuzzy eater, and his paediatrician prescribed baby supplements since he was 5 months old, don't remember the name of the fist one, but it has been changing as he has being growing and now he's taking Flintstones. To my 2yo daughter I give over the counter supplements since she turned 1yo. I started with Trivisol and now I give her Polyvisol.
I hope this help.

HI, my son is 13 months and I just found out the rash on the back of his legs are eczema. His dr. recommended a lotion for either eczema or extra dry skin like Aveeno. She said to use a hydrocorisone cream when it flares up but once it goes away to use the lotion on it. We apply lotion as many times as his diaper is changed if that gives you an idea, and if we stay on top of it, it usually stays under control. I like the idea about not lettin him stay in the bath too long, because no matter what, he always gets it after a bath, but we do let him stay in a while so I am going to try that as well. Good luck!

heres a shot in the dark for your child with eczema. Have you ever tried the Natures Care products? They're sold at the drugstores, Wal-Mart. As for the fruit and veggie question. I recently had the same problem with my children then we mixed the veggies with melted cheese. If he wont eat regular veggies try baby food. you can mix that with anymeal of theirs and they wont even know. The fruit, instead of just the fruit itself try to give him yogurt. get him use to eating it that way then introduce peices of fruit gradually. And yes it is safe to give a toddler multi-vitamins. Their are Chewables, gummie bear kinds.
Good luck

a good way to help prevent eczema is less baths...and less pool time too....my 2 kids have it and I bath them everyother day and sometimes less in the winter(dryer weather).....as soon as the kids get out of the bath I pat the dry and cream them and dress them it helps keep the moisture in....and what helped alot is staying dressed it keeps the moisture in...you dont dry out........

being a person that is not a veggie and fruit lover(being overwieght also) I want to make sure my kids eat right and have healthy habits so I learned tricks.......here are a few.......hide them...example most kids love speghetti sauce so instead of having a chucky sauce and risk having the veggies left there.... pass the sauce in the blender veggies and all...he wont know the difference and you could add any veggie you want.....soup is an other kid favorite often a veggie soup with alphabet letters get eatin up.......on KD mac night instead of using milk use tomatoe juice...and serve the milk in a glass......I am the type of parent that only makes one meal at supper...so if he doesnt eat it then tough(I wont be mean and serve something I know he really does hate..)but we are not a resturant so he has to learn to eat what is on his plate....children especially toodlers will not starve themselves so if he didnt eat luch because it wasnt bananas then there are chances he will eat supper because he is hungry and if not dont worry he will eventually eat just keep up your end(I sound mean but it wont last more than a day) and lastly dont worry if he does not eat veggies everyday because toodlers have tiny stomaches so look over a period of 3 or 4 days to see what he has eaten and likely he has eaten veggies there... as long as you serve veggies at each meal and he sees you eating them he will eventually do the same...just be very patient and be consistent and all will be ok.....just remember every bit counts so offer healthy choices and no junk and u have noting to worry about.....I swear I did that since they were able to eat chunks and it amazing my daughter(2) trades her cookies with my yogurt....and when she knows there are grapes in the fridge she sits in front of it and waits till I give her some.....my son choses fruit over cake..... its amazing how much a little patience and consistence it takes to get rewards.....my kids are not perfect on film night we do have chips, popcorn and chocolate but all in moderation.....

vitamines...hummm personnally no....because if your child is eating a veriety of foods then there is no problem....and if he his gaining wiegth and growing well also there is no problem....

My daughter has exema and if the cream isnt working they usally will give them a steriod shot but that isnt good for the heartache it caused I protect my 2 year old with vasline, treat breakouts with aveeno oatmeal bath, No Fragrance Im sure you know is the biggest rule and cold and/or wet skin is the biggest aggrivater....you can get vitamin drops at walmart that mix with juice , food, Milk, any thing but they dont taste good so if you can get your baby to take the dose like a dose of tylenol in the dropper to the mouth than you are more likley to get the whole dose down . But you should ask your baby's doc before starting the vitamin drops
