2 kids cross,
1 kid returns and give boat to mom who crosses
2nd kid returns and both kids go back across
1 kid comes back and gives boat to dad who crosses
2nd kid comes back and picks up 1st kid
both kids cross ....
All have now crossed the river.

Both of the kids go across. One goes back to the mom & dad. Then, the mom goes across. Then child #1 takes the boat back, and pick up child #2. So the mom, and both kids are on the other side. #1 goes back where the father is. Father crosses. Then #2, goes to pick up #1, and crosses to the other side. Got it?? Took me a while to figure out the wording, though it didn't take long to figure out.

Both 100's go 1 100 comes back gets out one 200 man goes the other 100 son comes back both 100's go back again 1 100 goes back the other 200 man goes the 100 lb son goes back and brings back the other 100lbs son

Send the mom then send the children together then send the dad, you never said the children werent capable of piloting a boat

The 2 children cross first, child 1 comes back, leaving child 2, then the father goes across, child 2 crosses back. Mom then crosses, the child 1 goes back across to get child 2, both children cross to the other side.
Mom, Dad, Child 1, Child 2
Mom, Dad -----------> Child 1, Child 2
Mom, Dad, Child 1 ------->Child 2
Mom,Child 1-------> Dad, Child 2
