When the judge says so.
Insane is a legal term not a medical one. Crazy is a word that is not in the medical vocabulary, nor is whacko or looney. What I think you are asking is:
" How do you know when you've officially had a breakdown?
I think I have but I'm not sure"..
Are you able to function in your regular life. If you can't, then you would be wise to seek professional help.
Stress and or anxiety can effect you in many, many ways. The worst is when your physical or mental or spiritual health is comprimised. Perhaps it would help if you made a list of your pressing issues and prioritize your issues according to the order in which they need to be dealt with.
Another thing to do is list your assets, what do you have to work with. This not only will give you valuable information, it will also put your mind on the task of gaining good health. When you MAKE your mind focus on tasks and challenges, you have no choice but to let that "Crazy/Insane" thinking go so you can focus on things that will be more to your benefit, rather than to your detrimenet. There are also hotlines out there you might access to talk you through the rough times. Also, consider things like depression, bipolar and the like --they are CHEMICAL MALFUNCTIONS that may actually need MEDICATION to opperate efficiently. Best of all luck with your challenge at hand. REMEMBER: NOTHING IS PERMANENT and "This too shall pass.

I used to ask myself this same question, but then I realized that the whole world is officially insane they are still looking for solutions to their madness. Once you allow someone else to tell you that you are crazy, then you are. No one can tell us nothing because we already know ourselves. You are not officially insane, there is no such thing as long as we realize that there is a pill that can fix it.
Or a good partner with an understanding ear and shoulder. But don't listen too me I'm insane too. The world just can't keep up.Everyone is always trying to come and tell me what they are going through, and then when I don't feel like catering to them at that time and start
yelling at them to leave me alone they get upset and call me crazy and tell me I need help, if so why are they coming to me? Your never Officially Insane You are just Fed-Up!

There, there Brittney. We'll find you the help you need.

j/k

I think the answer depends upon your own definition of insanity. You're still coherent enough to communicate your thoughts and concerns. Also, I would guess that if you're insane, you probably wouldn't be able to recognize it.

If you really believe that you are suffering from mental health issues, contact your local NAMI affiliate (National Alliance on Mental Illness). They will be able to direct you to the assistance you need, possibly even at low or no cost!

Good luck and hang in there!

"Officially" requires a Dr to state that you are committable with specfic mental health diagnosis - typical criteria for this is "imminent risk to self or others". Unofficially, there are a lot of symptoms that can be indicative of a mental health episode. Many of these can also be mimiced by severe stress, lack of sleep, trauma, etc. If you feel unsafe - get help. If you feel at risk - get help.

contrary to common belief not all crazy people dont know that theyre crazy. a lot of the time they may suspect something is wrong but almost always they underestimate how far off course they are.
You know youre crazy when life is like the reflection you see in a broken mirror that is like a window where everything shifts and never touches you(i know that doesnt make sense but that is how i see it)

Insane people don't know that they are insane, that's the whole point, they think they are normal.
