I have been doing some serious cardio like going about 12-16 miles a day on my exercise bike a day burning up to 400 calories..is it okay to take a day off?

It's more than ok. Your body needs at least a day each week to recuperate.

Agreed, your body deserves time off. A day or two per week off is no problem. Keep up the cardio work and you will see results.

There was a book in the 70's called "Positive Addiction".... exercise is one such addiction, but do not let it rule you.

Of course it's okay. :) It is probably even better for you to not do cardio every single day, it's a good idea to give your muscles time to relax. It's not realistic to expect yourself to be able to do it every day ... I would say 5 days maximum a week, unless you're training for something. You could alternate cardio days with strength training days for maximum results.

Heck ... I don't like it but sometimes life forces ya to take time off exercising ... just remember that you'll get back to it tomorrow and enjoy the break.

agreed. even arnold schwarzenegger in his prime took sundays off.
