It could be any number of things. The first one that came to my mind was possible eczema, a skin condition that causes a red rash and intense itching. Many children have it and there are topical creams that can treat it, but she'll need to be seen by a dermatologist. Should she develop a fever, watch for signs of other red marks on her body as it may be chicken pox. Has she recently been outdoors in a woodsy setting? It may be poison ivy. You may also want to change shampoos - perhaps her scalp is sensitive to the one you are using now.

All the best to you and your daughter.

i tend to agree with Kitty .. ringworms are also transfered from dogs and other people..

take your five year old to the chemist .. and let him/her take a look ... it is not a worm as kitty said BUT a fungal problem ,,
The chemist ( if it is a ringworm) will sell you an anti-fungal cream.

IT's contagieous ( SP) ... so wash your hands if you touch it.

it could be ringworm. It is not really a worm. Often spread by cats. Not dangerous. More on Webmd.
