Each time I have sore throat and try to get OTC medication, all I find are lozenges for pain relief. I need some that will also kill whatever microbes are causing my sore throat.

Lozenges are not a cure but give temporary relief. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

The only thing that will "kill" the bacteria is antibiotics. There are no OTC antibiotics. They require a doctor's prescription. And if you have a virus, rather than a bacteria, then there is nothing that will "kill" a virus. You just have to wait for time to heal. One herb you may try, which may hasten healing is lemon balm. Drinking the tea made from this herb is supposed to help healing. Also Echinecea is supposed to strength your immune system.

Gargle with warm honey water. Honey is a great natural anti-bacterial agent.
