I was walking past my garage door, where we keep our family cat at night because it gets into fights with other animals, and it was crying very loudly. I opened the garage to see what the fuss was about, and instantly I smell what I thought was Acetone. I later discovered a broken bottle of mosquito lamp oil. The bottle says fatal if swallowed.

I used some shampoo to wash her fur, but she was drooling at the mouth and still crying. I think she tried to clean herself and swallowed it. She won't drink anything, not milk or water. We tried to get her to eat some bread but she wouldn't do that either. She really wanted to go outside so I let her.

Is she going to die? Is there anything I can do besides wait it out?

Call a local emergency vet - they can contact the poison control center so they can appropriately treat your cat. Make sure to take the bottle of oil with you so they can tell poison control exactly what the cat ingested.

If you absolutely can't go to an emergency vet, you can call poison control yourself:

(From the ASPCA Poison Control website:) As the premier animal-oriented poison control center in North America, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is the best resource for any animal poison-related emergency, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Make the call that can make all the difference: (888) 426-4435. A $55 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card.

You need to take her to the vet immediately. The vet will be able to better diagnosis your cat. If the oil is still in the fur, then you need to use dawn dish soap or another dish soap. It will neutralize the oil and you'll be able to get it out of her fur. Make sure to rinse your cat very well.

Get her, and take her to the vet. She may have been poisoned by eating those chemicals. Better safe than sorry.

You MUST take her to emergency vet NOW. Or you'll find her dead in the morning. Seriously.
