i've had the same room since i was 9- medicine-pink walls and a stained off-white carpet, with boring furniature. Now i'm 15 and want something a bit more mature, with things that i love as a part of it. Colors i was considering were a soft, springy green, a mint, a light seafoam and a dark turquoise. I'm passionate about theater, acting, and movies. Does anyone have any ideas about color schemes/things to do for my room? [oh, and i'm getting the terrible carpet taken up, there's hardwood floor underneath]

recreate Hollywood glam of the 40s by using a blue/green mint color for the walls and a dark chocolate brown for the trim. bedding and curtains could have elements of dark brown and metallic silver. get a mirror surrounded by lights for a dressing room look. use a folding screen like what the starlets used to undress behind, and drape a few feathery boas over it. In front of the dressing room mirror put an elegant armless chair upholstered in silver or gold. for lighting, use a couple of sconces like what you see on the walls in movie theatres. If you can get them, hang a few classic movie posters like Maltese Falcon; Gone with the Wind; The Postman Always Rings Twice, etc.have a couple of ornate bedside lamps with shades rimmed with crystal pendants, pearls, feathers etc.
Dont forget to put a silver star on the door with your name!

You could hang velvet curtains from the wall like in a theater, or do that as a room divider hanging from the ceiling.

Paint a mural like you're seated in the theater looking at the stage, with the curtains hanging on the sides. Put uplights on the floor to act as footlights.

Or paint a mural that looks like a filmstrip with the countdown in it.

I would think darker colors would make this theme pretty cool, maybe paint your ceiling darker for some interest. Metallic paints, sconces on the wall.

I liked the dressing room idea that someone had, too.

The walls would look great with a light lime or olive green.
Paint the trim with a peach color.

Choose a nice area rug in gold tone or gold and green mixed.
Put up some metallic gold mirrors and frame your art in the same gold frames. Matting of your art can be in a peach to match the room trim.

Light and dark furniture both go well with this theme. As accents, use some bamboo furniture accents and real bamboo framed mirrors.

You bed spread could be a bamboo pattern or you could go with a mixed pattern in greens and peaches to tie your theme together. Grass paper might look great on one wall if you can paper walls.

Remember to put 2 large plants (silk or real low light plants) as nice accents.

If you don't like the peach color, you could substitute with your dark turquoise.

Good luck and enjoy ur new room!!

here are some ideas: 1. Do your room in dramatic red, white, and black with lots of modern shapes and styles. 2. Do it in fiery colors. Once upon a time, you weren't supposed to use hot pink and orange together, but the 1960s changed all that. Many teens love the intensity of these saturated tropical color combinations. Adding vibrant colors to your space has become a timeless decorating idea. As exciting as they are, hot colors can be wonderfully livable. Just balance areas of dazzling color with areas of white, another neutral, or a pale tint of one of your hot colors. Funky flowers are a great motif for this color scheme, but just about any motif your teen enjoys can be worked into a one-of-a-kind design. Florals are just the start of what you can find in today's contemporary fabrics, wallcoverings, and accessories, so let your girl shop for her current favorites. Balance busy prints with areas of solid color to create visual breathing room. 3. You can do a beach or ocean theme. Get lots of blues, greens, purple, white...hang surfboards on the wall, have bleached-white furniture... 4. To change the ocean theme a bit, do a nautical style. Mix in lots of light blue, gold, navy, and white. Make your room seem like a grand ocean liner. 5. If you are into elegant French-ish stuff, try this. Use lots of yellow and baby blue, and gorgeous fabric draped everywhere. If you can, get a canopy bed and an old-fashioned dressing table. The key to elegance is detailed like stencils on the furniture. There are tons of other ideas out there, so just look online and type "teen room ideas" or s omething like that into the search engine. Good Luck!
