Believe it or not, acid reflux is actually a lack of acid in the stomach. Taking acid neutralizing meds is a short term relief but doesn't do anything long term for the problem. You should take about a teaspoon of vinegar or a lemon. Something to add the healthy acids back to your stomach.
Also, make sure you do not take iboprofen, that can aggravate it, too.
Stay away from foods like onions, red sauces, and other things that you notice you get reflux soon after eating.
Don't eat too soon before you lay down. Go for a walk after eating. Exercise, sometimes if you are heavy the reflux is worse!

As some folks mentioned changing your diet by avoiding some foods, don't eat just before going to bed. Anti-acids are not a solution, they can actually make you symptoms worse. You can also get a wedge of foam and raise the head of your bed. So you're sleeping @ an angle. It's good to have a check up with your doc. to determine if your symptoms are congenital. You might have a weak sphincter leading to your stomach, raising your bed will help.

The only thing I can think of, watch your diet, no cheese, coffee, cheese, egg and onion together. Nothing too fatty. I find what helps me is sleeping on a higher pillow and drinking peppermint tea. I also eat fresh slices of pineapple which has an enzyme that helps digestion and that works good too if I eat right after a meal. And I won't take any meds either.

Yes this is what my doctor told me. Dont eat spicy foods or anything with lots of acids. Becareful with soda drinks too. They will eat your tummy alive. Dont have oranges or tomatos. Stay away form pizza and drink lots of water. Sometimes milk will upset my tummy so dont drink that. All you can do is control what you eat and sleep sitting up.
