Chris: People of this world do not esteem Jesus Christ because they do not know Him. Only when an individual comes to know Jesus in a spiritual relationship with Him and His Father, via the Holy Spirit, he or she will find purpose and meaning to their lives.
Another factor contributing to the lack of "popularity" of Jesus Christ is the "dark side" - Satan the Devil - the Adversary. Satan runs this world's system and does not want people to embrace Jesus, therefore, Satan has "blinded" people to the existence of a God or Jesus. But - rest assured; Jesus will return back to this earth again and His existence will be a non-issue. every human ever born will have their individual chance to see Jesus and be given their "shot" at Salvation. Christians today, have their chance now, and are charged with the responsibility to have the Good News of His Coming announced. Bottom-line is: Every human ever, born, will have their "kick" at the "can" - we ALL WIN in the end !!!

I would have to say it has something to do with the complete and total lack of verifible evidence to support his existence. The earliest writings about him were hearsay, and written by people who advocated lies to keep the early church in power.
http://nobeliefs.com/exist.htm for a more thorough essay on this topic.
Add to the fact that there were no less than 12 other "messianic" figures of the time, from different cultures. The 2nd most famous was a man called Apolonius, who performed miracles, fed the hungry, cured the sick, and rose from the dead.
The Christ myth parallels other tales as well, Hercules for instance. Both were the son of a god, born to a woman, performed many great deeds, and rising to join their father in the heavens.

In similiar fashion to age old remedies, brussels sprouts, and good ole fashion Cod Liver oil, the best things in Life are the ones we tend to ignore the most. Jesus isn't respected like he should be b/c unlike many other things he actually doesn't have an equal opposite, so he's had to be taken outta the world or in many places, placed under false lights.

Are you insane!? Christianity is the dominating religion of the world. It has manipulated and dominated every facet of people's live in this country and in many parts of Europe. It has killed and tortured millions of people in its name. Every other religion has been abused by Christianity in one form or another. Its a religion that has taken the teachings of a man who has said to love and respect one another, that all of us are children of God who loves us and forgives us, and in his name killed, tortured and maimed. Christianity is the hypocrisy that the world bought. I respect Jesus Christ, its what his followers have done that is reprehensible. Do you think he would want you to brainwash the minds of young children with his philosophies, or do you think he would prefer for persons of adult mind to freely understand how beautiful his theories and ideas are? Christianity would be beautiful, if not for the Christians.

I love and respect Jesus, as the apostle Paul said, for to me, to live is Christ to die is gain. These are the words that show how much I love serving and being in Christ. There is much rhetoric here on Yahoo r&s, those of us who pray should be praying for those who are lost and in denial of the truth.

I am Muslim and I love Jesus. He is a beloved prophet of Islam.
But then again it's not all black-and-white. Just because you consider yourself Christian (or Muslim) doesn't necessarilly mean that you love Jesus and follow his teachings. And Christians aren't the only people in the world who love Jesus either.
To answer your question though, many people just don't care. That's the truth. Most people only care about their own lives, and not in spirituality or philosophy of any sort.

Because the New Testament was created as an after though, as an appendix to the old testament.
Oh, and using Jesus Christ to send christians on a permanet guilt trip is hardly cool.

he did not come from a very afluent family ,wore womens clothes, only had men friends ,and long hair
apart from that he was a trouble maker stiring up the crowds dabbling in magic and challenging authority .
and now on reflexion his existance on this planet has left a trail of war ,blood, murder and theft, and still people are killing because of him
does this sound like a benevolant influence ,i know the words say peace love ,etc but the reality differs
is it really so strange that he was not respected more ¿¿

There is a simple answer: There are many belief systems that JC doesn't play a factor. Morality should dictate common-sense. However, I've found it does quite the opposite when it is not accompanied with an open mind,
Your question is a fish hook for those with an agenda. Are you sure you don't have one too?
