Paul was speaking to a primitive society of people. Women were encouraged not to look attractive in public. That's the problem many women have in some of today's Muslim societies. Muslims often portray women as whores if they are uncovered in public. Pay close attention to the verse. It's obvious that God doesn't want women to have their heads shaved in public. That's why Paul said women should have their heads veiled in public. A group of Christians does not force a woman to shave her head if her head is not covered. A group of Christians does not stone a woman to death if her head is uncovered. That is because of God's Holy Spirit. Become a Christian, and you will understand what I am talking about.

In culture back in biblical times, a woman was supposed to cover her head for modesty is what I believe. But now that times have changed, I don't believe that this is still in effect. The Bible also says that a womans hair is her covering, and her glory. I think that God meant this in a different way then what it has been tooken as.

We have in our book Jesus, Moses, Mohamed as messengers of God. We have the holly spirit mentioned we have many things you don't think it's in Islam that's why some people doesn't understand Islam.

Because it was not as a "Christian" thing to do back then but it was the norm for women in Greek society, which is why, of course, Paul addresses it in his letter to the Greek church in Corinth. It was not a societal norm in Palestine or in Rome or Egypt for women to worship with their head covered.
Myself, I am more aghast at men who are brazen enough to wear a hat in church today....the societal norm is for a man to remove his hat in all public places -- even the supermarket. Just because most of them ignore this, it does not mean that the norm no longer exists. Its the same thing as it was for women back in Corinth who dared to worship with their head uncovered. Obviously it was not an issue in Thessalonica or in Philippi (both also in Greece) otherwise Paul would have brought it up in his letters to the Thessalonians and to the Philippians as well.
PS....Not "all versions of the bible" (as you state) uphold your claim: my Catholic Bible -- The New American bible -- has the same verse worded as follows: "If a woman does not have her head veiled, she may as well have her hair cut off". It does not command her to cut it off the way Protestant bibles do. It's making a veiled statement (pardon the pun) that a woman with an uncovered head is in as poor taste as a woman with shorn hair -- because back then, it was the lesbians and prostitutes that wore their hair close-cropped.
Therefore, it was only a cultural thing -- not a religious one.

Don't justify yourself by misquoting the bible.
If you are going to quote the bible, it would be beneficial to do so in the correct context. If this was as you say, then why are women of God walking around with a full head of hair.
The letter you have so misunderstood is Paul's written letter to the people of Corinth. If you are serious in understanding what Paul is writing about, I would advise you click on this link:

That was a very poor attempt to justify your beliefs. I am a Christian and I don't attack anyone's belief. I simply help them understand mine better. Again, if you are interested in learning, Bible.org is available to you 24/7.

Read the context instead of cutting off the part of the passage which explains what Paul was saying there. Paul is advocating modesty and order in Christian churches--just like conservative Muslim mosques do. If a woman acts like a prostitute in a mosque, then she ought to be reprimanded and guided back into a correct behavior. Paul was saying essentially the same thing--that women should humble themselves in a place of worship. Next time, read the portion of the verse you quoted in its context, and you'll see how similar (and non-offensive) it is to women.

And the Christians say that muslim women are opressed when it is required of their women to be covered too. There are also in the bible for them not to eat pork but yet they eat, but the say they believe in the bible.
Mackenziecalhoun: You did not answer the question instead you blabber about text (translations) which suited your taste. About tabari, where on earth did you get such book when muslims have not heard of it. You will die a miserable death for your lies.

You expect people to believe that Christians are cruel to their women? Paul was talking about how shameful it is for a woman to cut their hair, not that they should shave their hair. You don't even know your own religion, how do you think you can know mine. I am a Christian, and I don't have my wife shave her head or walk behind me either.

The key to this answer is the Old Testament. A woman head was shaved only when it was assumed her husband died. So to have her head covered means that a woman must be under the authority of her husband...and not act as if he were dead. Those scriptures are speaking of the adulterous women, or whore
They had to shave their heads for all to see their shame,
And they were made an example so that others would not do the same
Many scriptures are pertaining to that culture and time, and we should not take it, that it means the same 2000 years later
