Think they are better than religious folks?
- I don't. Only that I'm more open to rational thought.
Why do some atheists believe that only religious fundamentalists are intolerant?
- Who knows? Ignorant I guess.
why can't some atheists admit that there is also intolerance towards religion from atheists?
- I do.

Atheism is a religion as far as I am concerned. To me, religion demands an unwaranted certainty and atheists are as certain about their position as the religious. Once that happens, a person *has* to think that their answer is correct (or else why pick it) and, ipso facto, assume that people that don't agree must be misinformed or less able to grasp "the truth."
That's why we agnostics get to snicker at others and ourselves simultaneously. You see, we know the one "truth" that nobody disputes: we're not sure. It *could be* that we agnostics are actually better than everyone else, but we really need more evidence before we insist on that assertion... We could so totally be wrong about that.
So... are you secretly hoping that atheists will validate your acceptance of gay bashing on the GLBT site? Not the best example to select... You might want to rethink that one... I could be wrong, of course...
Good luck with the God thing! Hope you're right and that you don't burn in someone else's hell! Magic 8-ball says Buddhism is the right one today... Fun!

I don't think we are better as humans, but our position is more rational and we are much less gullible.
Because they are. I could site hundreds of examples. Let me add to that. They are not the only ones, just the worst example.
Sure, but it is almost totally a reaction to the actions of the religious. I really wouldn't care at all about your sky faerie if you just left us alone and quit trying to save us. I have been an atheist about 30 years. The majority of that time I didn't say a word. But it has continued to come my way. I have finally gotten tired of it.
Yes. See the answer above. Gays don't bother those that come after them at all. You guys knock on my door and tell me I am going to hell every once in a while. Then you wonder why you get it back.

I don't think I am better than another person however i was once a Christian and I am definately a better person now. The way some questions are phrased, it is difficult to answer them without sounding knowledgable. The fact that many Atheists were once christians could cause us to sometimes be perceived as having superiority complexes but that would be normal when you consider that we have made a personal progression beyond christianity and what we consider to be self-improvement. i.e. better than when we were Christians. I often receive e-mails from Christians who don't like my answers but I've never done that to a Christian. Some Christians use this forum to profoke replies from non-believers so that they can then react to them and it also helps them to feel victimised, makes them feel that they are fulfilling Biblical prophecy. And I say things like that because I used to be like that when I was a Christian, I'm not simply talking out my ars.

I find your question to be of the type that generalizes so much that it just seems to be asked for the purpose of insulting and therefore generating a reaction. But, ask and ye shall receive:
This question and others like it is the reason atheists don't need to think they are better than religious folks, they KNOW it.

Oh, I agree that some theists get criticized by atheists. But I don't think you should pin it on the atheists. Christians are intolerant of everybody. Atheists are intolerant of Christians because christians are the only ones who choose to be self righteous and pushy. They push their religion onto people who are unwilling to hear it. I call that harrassment and I think atheists have every right to criticize.

More than 80% of the population of the U.S. say they wouldn't vote for an atheist presidential candidate... talk about intolerance. There are intollerant and downright rude people of every religion, faith, and belief/disbelief.
And there's a huge difference between gay bashing and religion bashing, the two aren't even comparable.

No. Not all atheists are intolent towards religious people or their believes. My father and I are good examples. When the topic of religion arises, we just voice out our opinions and we also listen to the other views as well.

Atheists are entitled to feel superior because they exhibit the highest attribute of mankind: the ability to use logic to figure out how the world works. No religious person can do this.
