My sister is marrying a man from the Netherlands. A lot of our relatives have not met him before. As the Maid of Honor, I was thinking about a couples bridal shower, maybe a 7pm wine and hors d'oeuvres. Do you think that is stupid? Any suggestions to make it work?

My brother in law and his fiance had a couples shower. And yes, it was called a shower.

It was wonderful.

It was held in a private room at a restaurant and lunch was served. There were about 30-40 guests, and we did play some games - and had a great time. It was a couples event, but no kids. They even sat and opened all their gifts.

I think what you are opting for is a great choice for the situation and I think that everyone will have a lovely time. Pehaps given the time of evening, you could skip gift opening or there are lots of ideas of different types of showers - especially now that most couples have the homemaking basics.

Enjoy!

I think it's the only way to go! I've been to couples bridal showers, baby showers, and when there is wine and food involved, everyone is a willing participant! Hey! It can really be fun. Just serve the drinks, and food, and be very relaxed, and engage your guests in conversation, put on music, open gifts, and DO NOT play games, and all will be well. Good Luck!

i'd only call it a pair's bathe. visitors could know they are getting married and what else would they be having a tub for considering the fact that those are only given for weddings and toddlers? wedding ceremony and bridal advise an identical ingredient. Bridal isn't unique just to the bride. A bridal occasion working example is the whole group of the couple and their attendants, no longer only the brides and her maids.

You could have an engagement party. Then do a bridal shower on a different day. Have some of the men from the engagement party take him out for a drink while you ladies enjoy the shower.

Maybe a better idea would be to have an engagement party...that way, friends and family can be there from both sides and he won't be so bored. The bridal shower should just be for the bride and the girls. he may be so bored he won't even care about meeting the others. At least with an engagement party, he can enjoy himself

Jack and Jill showers are more common than you think. Just try to gear some of the games (if you have any) to both men and women. Also, make sure that it is clear on the invitations that both men and women are invited.
The wine and hors d'oeurves idea is perfect.

It doesn't sound stupid, but why don't you call it an engagement party instead of a bridal shower. Those are pretty normal to have. Then you can have a separate party for a bridal shower.

My friend's totally did this with great results. We set up a "casino night" in the garage and had a great time. It was the first time most of the wedding party met each other and we all hit it off. It was a really relaxing low-key way to hang out before the wedding overtook everything.

Oh I think that is great :) Everyone loves hors d'oeuvres and wine is such a great thing to combine with that! Good luck!

No, I think a women's only shower is so cool. Good time for all the ladies to get together and commiserate. What we often do in our family, is towards the end of the shower, the groom-to-be comes in and meets everyone.
