i know dogs get shots but are cats suppose to get shots too?

Yes they do. They need to get a distemper shot, then about 3-4 weeks later get another distemper shot and their rabies shot. After that they need to get a rabies shot once a year.

They say that cats need to have ther shots as do dogs, and I have concerning questions due to the experiences I've had. I've always had a cat since I was a child and I'm 48 now, So.. I get my cats and dogs shots. But my ex-husband has two cats one Siemese and one Tabby and they are 18 and 15 years old and they haven't ever had any shots from the vets and hardly ever have to go to the vets, and they are healthy. On the other hand I give my cats there shots and none of them have lived past 8 years old and they always are going to the vets, so you have to answer that question for yourself. But I am debating the next cat I get rather to have it get shots or not as well.

It's just as important for cats to have shots as it is for dogs. Many vets will give a 5 in 1 (five vaccines in one shot). A 5 in 1 covers the following diseases: leukemia, calcivirus, panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and pneumonitis. The cat will need to have a series of three shots given 3 - 4 weeks apart. The following year, the cat will need one additional 5 in 1 shot. A rabies shot is also necessary. This is given when a kitten is 12 weeks old and is repeated a year later. After the first year, cats should be immunized every three years.

Distemper is very important. From 6 weeks on you should vaccinate very 3-4 weeks until your kitten is about 16 weeks . Then a booster at 1 year and annual boosters if pet in area where needed. Yes they do, and where i live, you HAVE to make sure your cats (along with dogs) have their shots, it's the law, if you don't you get fined.... It may be different in different places

and in my state an county they make you get them and the cats HAVE to get licenses too.
if you do not, they give you fines ans can take the animals and take you to court, it is for safety reasons to humans and other animals.
