Isn't that like saying "I'm a talking llama" and expecting people to believe you, soley because you say so?

Along the same lines, why do people claim that the Bible is the word of God.. because the Bible itself says so?

To Molly:
When has God himself said so? Outside the Bible, of course.

Ok ok ok people are missing the actual question. The question ISN'T "Is the Bible true?" because really, none of us know. I'm just curious as to why people take it as the literal word of God when its the only thing that says it is? Another example of this is the Quran, the Torah, every single other holy book. What makes them wrong and the Bible right?

So if I have rock solid faith that the Bible is NOT infallible, then I'm just wrong? I'm confused.

Not only does the Bible claim it is so it proves that it is so by fulfilled prophecy, verified historical facts and a person/God that quoted from it all the time who rose from the dead with large groups of witnesses that died for their faith because they knew they were not dying for a lie but for the truth that they witnessed before their own collective eyes. (Takes a deep breathe after that one really long sentence.)

Because there are certain elements in society who need guidance or something to cling to - guess that is the whole basis of Faith.
Those who blindly accept the Bible as the 'word of God' and as such infallable are demonstrating 'Blind Faith'. These are the same people who would ignore the Council of Nicea which 'edited' the Bible and decided which bits would be ignored and left out pretty arbitrarily, denounce the Gnostic gospels while voiciferously proclaiming the legitimacy of the Bible and simply ignore the fact that the Bible was written by assorted 'blokes' many hundreds of years after the 'events' and is nothing more than a collection of myths, tall tales and stories much in the same way that the Iliad is.
NO, the Bible is not 'True'. It is a collection of stories, written by many different authors, conceived many centuries after the events (at least 500 years) and coloured by their own personal beliefs.
Then edited with anything slightly contentious or not seen as 'belonging' to the Christian Faith removed.
It's a bit like saying that any other myths, stories and old wives tales are gospel truth because they have the same sort of genesis.
To the Bible thumpers who believe that the book is the work of God through the writers, why did the Bible require editing my mere mortal man then - specifically the Council of Nicae at the order of Emporer Constantine of Rome?
If it is the infallable word of God then please can we have a complete version that includes the Gospels according to Mary and Judas Escariot?
Ah, but of course... you deny that these exist because your Faith is blind and inflexible.

In human terminology:The Bible is the most researched and studied book in the whole history of this world. The facts of the bible (Humanly Speaking) have been proven over and over again through Archaeology. No other book or teaching has been put through more scrutiny than Gods Holy Word.
The proof is also found in the Prophetic books of the Bible.
Only God can know future events with 100% accuracy.
The Books of Daniel and Revelation have been gone over with a fine toothed comb, hundreds of thousands of times and no one can find any false Prophecy in them.
Even those who are determined to dis-prove Gods Word, cannot find any error.
Gods Word is Perfect, just as He is Perfect. Human historical accounts and human artifacts prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Bible is the Perfect Word Of God.
Gods Holy Word to us is Eternal.
God Bless You....Peace.

People that claim the bible isn't wrong are wrong themselves. The bible was written by the hand of man, and thus proven fallible.
Add the ability for men to bring personal politics into religious doctrine to the translations being hard to do exactly and it makes the bible only a source. If they are good Christians they will understand the message is what really counts, not every individual letter of the bible, old testament, or new.
Look up the canonization process, it's quite fascinating.

Let's see I could give a very long or a very short answer to this, think I'll take the middle.
Archeology has proved the Bible right on many occasions. Though men have tried for hundreds of years, no one has been able to prove one thing in the Bible as false.
Prophesy in the Bible has come true. Many prophesied about the birth death and Resurrection of Jesus...they were right. Many prophets predicted the return of the Israelis to Jerusalem. In 1948 here they came just like prophesied. In this generation many more prophecies are coming to pass.
The best selling book of all time is the Bible. Many times they have tried to get rid of the Bible, but here it is. They are trying to get rid of it today, but it won't ever happen.
The Bible is written by men inspired of God and no one can destroy it

The Bible is inspired by God! It is the only book that has predicted hundreds of prophecies which have come true, are currently taking place, and will be revealed in the future.
The Bible is the only book that has answered questions science only discovered after years of trial and error. The Bible explained that the earth was round and suspended in space upon nothing(while men argued it was flat), it explains gravity, formulation of galaxies, hygiene, biological facts, how oceans and seas function, history, and much more.
The Bible is the only book that teaches and provides answers for every social, emotional, spiritual, and tons of other problems that exist today. From the most basic, to the most complicated regardless of what century it is.
Most importantly, no one has ever PROVEN that there are inconsistencies or contradictions in the Bible. There are people who "think" they have proof after reading isolated scriptures taken out of context. However, when you present their findings, to a Believer filled with the Holy Spirit, who is guided by the Lord, and has read the Bible from cover to cover, their arguments are ALWAYS proven false.
There is no human who exists, that could have written a book with such accuracy and prophetic meaning, that could possibly have stood the test of time as the Bible has done. Society has to ammend and correct laws every few years, yet people actually believe humans could have written the Bible???
The Lord used men of faith as INSTRUMENTS to place HIS thoughts in the Bible for our benefit, so that no human can later say they were ignorant to truth. It's no different than a lawyer or doctor using a secretary to type their words on paper.
2 Peter 1:20-21 states: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The scriptures tell us that the MAJORITY of people in existence will reject God's Word and deny He exists. While those who have faith in God, and will be saved are the MINORITY in comparison. We are all right now...this second...just one of the many prophecies currently being revealed.
Don't follow the crowd...be wise open your heart....and think for yourself. While humans sit around doubting, questioning, and mocking the Word of God, they are also making life or death decisions, and will be held accountable for their choices!!
To answer your question FAITH in the Power and Sovereignty of God is why accept the Bible as God's Word.
God Bless, Miji

Sounds like you're trying to find another reason why you shouldn't read or believe the Bible. Jesus Himself referred to the Bible. Jesus is mentioned not only in the Bible but in other religions and in Eastern history. Considering these facts might be enough to validate the Bible. Why would so many people, write such a long book, with so many vastly different stories, covering so very many years write a book just to try and trick people?

Intrepret it as point of view.
Believers will tell you the Bible is the Word of God because God said so. The books are important, but God above all.
For someone other than that point of view, they might look for truth or support starting only with the books (meaning books of the Bible). It is like only looking at one piece.
Does that help?
