Marijuana might stop an attack because it acts as a bronchial dilator. Drinking a little bit of alcohol during an attack might also help; however neither of these are nearly as effective as a fast acting inhaler or other traditional medications and should only be used in a pinch.
The long term effects of smoking anything will make asthma worse. Smoking should be avoided.

Yes it works as a bronchial dialator and opens up the airways in your lung, facilitating breathing. It is just as effective as any prescribed inhaler. Finding a way to reduce the amount of smoke inhaled (bong, vaporizor, cooked in food) will reduce the chemicals and toxins in the smoke. This can be a very good alternative to albuterol and proventil, the two most common inhalants, which can cause unwanted side effects, and also to steroids which can cause even worse side effects after long term use.
I personally have suffered from asthma since the age of 8 and haven't had an attack since 17, when I started smoking.

No. In fact, inhaling smoke of any type slowly damages the lungs. Marijuana CAN be an effective treatment for several medical conditions, though.
For example: Nausea and vomiting. People undergoing cancer treatment can get fast relief from these common side effects of chemotherapy.
Muscle spasms. Marijuana can relieve spasms in multiple sclerosis patients and individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Glaucoma. Marijuana reduces pressure within the eyes. It can help prevent eye damage as well as discomfort.
Aids-related "wasting." Marijuana is an excellent appetite stimulant. It can reverse malnutrition and the extreme weight loss associated with AIDS.

No, definitely not! It will make it worse! Glaucoma and people on chemotherapy (who often feel nauseous) can benefit. Glaucoma sufferers, and people determined to keep using, should adopt the following harm minimisation technique: cut it up very fine or dry & crush, add a teaspoon of olive or soybean oil (any vegetable oil), and 1 or 2 table spoons of self raising flour and a little water, to make a dough, or paste, then heat until golden brown. Takes 45 mns. to work. Spread the word! I used for 30 yrs. then gave up, cold turkey, with no problems; hope you can do it earlier.
